Hello everyone~~ ^^ How are you doing?
I’m here to show you my entry for the Splinterlands Art Contest. For this week’s contest, I decided to choose one of the gorgeous girls in Splinterlands world so I chose “Continuum Seer” card. I have drawn this card some time ago, around one year ago. You can search the character’s name to see the post. If we compare these two artworks we can clearly see how much progress I have made through this one year. Practice really makes perfect. I still have a long way to go but seeing the result makes me happy to continue. ^^
The reasons, I chose this character is that I really liked her face expression, the way she is smiling and looking. I also liked the magic hourglass she holds in her hands. It just looks so cool. And also the green magic that is surrounding her ^^
I started my drawing with doing a quick sketch that is why all my sketches are so messy :D The only things that matter when I do the sketching is drawing the ideas that come to mind. First, I drew a girl and then drew the important features of this character, features like the horns, long hair, shape of Her ears. I changed the style of her clothes because I wanted to try something new but for coloring I used the same colors to paint it.
When I finished the sketch, it was time to color the portrait. As always I start with coloring the skin first and then I go and color the rest of the drawing. I used natural skin tones to paint the skin. After that, I went on coloring her outfit, facial feature and horns. Then I added some details on them. Then I started working more on her skin and added more depth to it by highlighting parts of the skin and shaded it. I used hard air brush for shading and highlighting and then used the smudge tool to blend the colors together. That is the reason her skin looks very smooth. Sometimes when I don’t want to use smudge tool, I just use the soft air brush. Most of the times I don’t need using smudge tool after that.
I am really happy with how her skin turned out. After that, I drew the hair strands to make it her hair look more realistic and detailed. I use hair brush for drawing the hair strands. Back then, I used to use light brush to draw the hair strands and it took me a long time and now I save more time using this brush. I also use light brush when I want to draw single hair strands or make the hair look more messy. Then, I added little highlights on her lips and eyes. I feel like drawing these little highlights makes a great difference. I feel like that it makes the drawing look more alive.
At first, I didn’t want to draw the magic hourglass but then I thought drawing it would make the drawing more amazing. Then I drew the green magic around her. As for the background, I decided to keep it simple because I wanted the focus to be on the character.
The brushes I used for this drawing are : soft and hard air brush, light brush, hair brush.
I am really happy with the result and had a great time working on this portrait. I hope you also enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed working on the portrait. ^^
Now let’s see the progress ~~
