Hello, Extra Terrestrials!
Happy New Year to you all!
I hope you all came into the new year with good health and the people you love, and hope that is year brings more great health, art, love, and success.
Grum Flameblade
I've wanted to draw an orc for a very long while now but was a little pen shy because I'm not that great at creature design. So I figured that painting Grum for the #splinterlands contest would make for good practice

Process
I began my process by laying out basic shapes and the pose (top left) I wanted for the character. I don't typically do this at the beginning but I wanted some autonomy before any got concrete. All I knew is that I wanted World of WarCraft aesthetics. I then did sketch and line work on the shape to dial things in (top right). I then laid in the shadow values but left the light value out for the moment (bottom left). I darkened the background to add contrast to the character.

After working the values in, I added a colour gradient map to set my tones and went to working on the hue and throwing in the light values. From there onwards it was just a matter of rendering it out. But I didn't want it fully polished so I left some paint brush marks as an aesthetic choice.

I'm really happy with my work on this one and it somewhat busted my confidence for draw creature work in the future so look forward to that.
Thank you for taking that little time to let me share with you.
