Hey everyone! π I'm absolutely thrilled to pull back the curtain and share the creative process behind my latest NFT piece, 'Umbral Lumina'. It's always fascinating to look back at how a concept evolves, and this one was quite a journey, blending digital art with a truly unexpected natural element. Let's dive in!
Stage 1: Starting the Vision in MediBang
Every artwork begins with an idea, and for 'Umbral Lumina,' it started in MediBang. My aim was to create a truly unique character, thinking about its potential as an NFT. I had to work quickly, moving from initial outlines to laying down the base colors in layers. Even though it was a focused and somewhat fast process, I enjoyed seeing the character take shape, gaining its initial form and a sense of its mysterious presence. This stage was about building the core structure and personality of the art.
Stage 2: The Unexpected Blend - My Cornfield Secret!
This next step introduced something quite special and unexpected into the artwork. After I completed the character drawing in MediBang, I incorporated a photo I had taken earlier β a close-up of the inside of a growing corn plant. This wasn't a photo taken for fun or a joke; it was an image I found interesting in itself. I decided to overlay this organic texture onto one half of my digital character. This combination was powerful, merging the precise lines of digital art with real-world nature and adding a deep, almost mysterious dimension to the piece, creating a fantastic contrast.
Stage 3: Colour Exploration - Getting Wild with PicsArt
With the character now featuring its unique corn element, I moved to PicsArt. This phase was all about creative exploration and digital transformation. I started experimenting with various filters and color adjustments. I created multiple versions of the image, each one exploring a different color scheme, light effect, or mood. It was a process of layering digital effects to see how light, shadow, and color could dramatically change the character's appearance, preparing it for its final animated form.
Stage 4: Crafting the Motion - The Darkening Layer Technique
To bring 'Umbral Lumina' to life as a captivating GIF, I used a specific technique to create that smooth, evolving motion. I took the series of images I had created in PicsArt and began to layer them. The key was to progressively darken each new image as I placed it on top of the previous one. This darkening process wasn't just about making the image dimmer; it created a sense of depth and a gradual shift in luminosity. This careful layering of light and shadow is what gives the GIF its captivating, hypnotic flow, showing how the 'lumina' (light) moves through the 'umbral' (shadow).
The Final Creation: Assembling the GIF
Finally, after all the drawing, blending, experimenting with colors, and meticulous layering, it was time to bring everything together. I used a GIF maker application to combine all the individual frames. Watching the static images transform into the dynamic 'Umbral Lumina' was incredibly rewarding. It's truly fulfilling to see the entire creative journey, from the initial sketch to the final animated piece, come to life.
I hope you like it!
