Here is my entry for @hiveph 's art contest for week two! This time, I chose moon as my subject. The goal of the contest is to bring out your creative side, and to invite more artist in the community.
I already had an idea on my mind the moment I saw the list of subject. I have not drawn any cosmic themed Grumpea so, this is the perfect time to make one!
You can check out the contest's rule in this link
Also, I want to congratulate @chileng17 , @bananzell , and @shineko009 for winning on first week of the contest. Way to go, guys!

Sketch time!
I first think of where to put my moon. So I would imagine that it is on the upper right corner of the piece. On the opposite side would be Grumpea's whale. At first, I thought of a rocket, but it would be interesting to put an element that is not cosmic-related, so a whale is a perfect creature to put in. Kind of weird but do whales even fly, let alone can survive in the space? HAHA! I just drew some cosmic clouds and stars on the background. I know it is kind of messy right now, but trust me, it is all in my head. lol!

Flat colors
For the moon, I chose shades of gray. Commonly, this is the used color. But I was contemplating if I wanted to make it red or orange. To make the colors balanced, since the background will be a burst of colors, I just chose gray. I used Shapes and picked Circle. It is a great help to use the Shape tool for perfect circle, well if you can draw a perfect cirlce, you can opt-out this tool. For the whale, I looked for references on Pinterest. I darken the color of the whale by 50 percent to match the background. I also put yellow dots for the stars.

Putting details on the moon and on the whale~
Aside from Grumpea being the star of this piece (sorry, Grumpea) I also put more details on the moon and on the whale. Ugh, should I name the whale at this point? Lol. To make it appear as a moon, I put depths on the craters and used a rough brush for the texture. I chose another shade of gray to emphasize the roughness. I also put sparkles, because why not UwU.
For the whale, I have struggled on what a whale looked like because I have never seen a real whale. I have only seen dolphins and seals, lol. So, Google to the rescue! It seemed that they have these lines on their bottom and then, they have spots, probably from aging? Actually, I have a phobia of whales so kinda icky to see pictures of them. Noticed that I also added droplets of water around the whale.

Cosmic clouds!
I am always intrigued on how the universe was created, aren't we all? There are so many theories regarding the inception of the universe.
I chose the colors of orange, purple, and yellow as colors of the cosmic clouds. This is what I usually envisioned how different stars and gases mixed in outer space. Kind of the typical galaxy colors. I used the blur and smudge brushes to make clouds and swirlings of the outer spaces gases. For the stars, I made them glow by using the Add layer. I chose a neon orange and yellow color for the glow.
I airburshed white color around the moon to appear like the stars glow reflected on it. I darken it a bit to make a shadow.
I added a UFO and a meteor in the background too!
Final art!
Small details are not that noticable but it gives the whole feels of the art. I added more sparkles and fragments of stars in the background. This is when I checked every detail so that I will not miss a thing. Well, I always ended up forgetting some details HAHA! More cosmic clouds under the whale's fins. Added more glow on the stars and swirls on the cloud gases. tune up everything, and tadaaa!
