Hello Splinterlands! Finally after two months, I am able to finish my first entry for the Splinterlands Art contest. For this entry I chose the Charlok Minotaur!
Before anything else, I would like to give a shoutout for @jijisaurart and @biyaawnur! These two ladies inspired me to join this contest. So inspired that I started drawing even with an injured DRAWING hand.
That injury may have deformed my hand a bit, but it doesn't mean I will stop from drawing. Anyway that's another story to tell.
My Tools and Equipment
I am using a Huawei 10-inch tablet with Gen 2 M-Pencil stylus. For the application, I am using Medibang Paint
The Process
I started with a rough sketch. This is not the first time I drew a Minotaur, but I want to base my drawing from the Splinterland card. The card shows that the Minotaur is holding an axe and a chain. I redesigned the battle-axe and instead of a plain chain, I drew a chain-link mace. As you can see, I changed the position of the right arm and the axe a few times.
I converted the sketch layer to blue and created another layer for the "ink"
I added several layers for the colors. Two for the base colors, one for the skin and another for the armor and weapons. Then I add a few more layers for the dark and light shades. Then I have another layer for additional details. I experimented with different brushes in adding the details for the fur. I also made the chain-mace flaming.
Since the Charlok Minotaur came from a superheated place (probably a volcano filled with molten lava). I wanted the shoulder plate armor and arm bands to appear like obsidian but metalic.
Then I exported a PNG file and created a new file to add the background. I imagine Charlok Minotaurs living just above a river of molten lava.
Here is the final output.
Thanks for reading!
