It is widely accepted that the definition of "vision" is ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom. But what isn't agreed upon is the method by which individuals go about this critical thinking.
When I think of a person's vision, I wonder what is at play in that person's thought process. Do the end results come from a place of rational thinking, or do they originate from irrational ruminations?
How we view the world around us I feel affects our vision. If a person feels that she can operate to a degree of certainty in a certain environment, then her vision may be to become the next critically-acclaimed, successful short fiction writer.
In the alternative, her vision may be as simple and profound as seeing in the future her family as one harmonious group walking the same path to success.
No matter which vision an individual chooses to pursue, there are a number of factors or stressors, including environmental, external, and internal, that may prohibit or shatter one's dream or goal from materializing.
I share with you my mixed media art project that portrays my version of a person who's unable to grasp her vision.
For my current project, I knew I wanted to create an abstract scene full of colors and shapes. For the female, I locate a face whose features looked ethereal. It was the eyes that captured my attention.
For the abstract portions, a pure fractal created by me in the advanced fractal rendering program, Apophysis 7X, provided a cool background. Other images I positioned near the face for a broken idea effect.

I then utilized Canva , my design program, to blend the different type images. I leave with you my procedures. I then add layers of elements in accordance with my upgraded Annual Pro Membership that includes access to Canva's free and premium images, templates, and backgrounds. Also available to me are the tools to remove backgrounds, resize, filter, duplicate, and reposition items as required. Perhaps of all the tools, the ability to remove backgrounds thereby creating transparencies of the images is crucial to the blending process.
- I began with a blank, white canvas;
- Added the female image and adjusted the transparency and size;
- Added the eye components by combining the broken plate and turn, position eye inside the plate, then resized, colorized, then repositioned them to cover the female's original eye;
- Added the abstract shards from Canva, duplicated them, and positioned all to the left side of the face;
- Added my pure fractal;
- Added my abstract black bars image, then adjusted the transparency.
Here is my completed project:
