Background
This post is the second installment from my sci-fi art project, Fifth Spatial.
It's a sci-fi themed art collection of WAX and Hive NFTs. In addition, all information is posted to its official account on Hive, @fifthspatial. If you're interested in learning more about the collection and the project in general, I'll put some links for you to check out down at the bottom.
This goal of this installment series is to showcase the art from the collection, and to document the process of creating it. I've put my heart and soul into this project, and is simply really proud of the results. Hope you enjoy!
Tools and Process
The tools used to create this piece was my mobile phone camera, Blender and Photoshop.
The photo
The photo was taken at dusk (around 11PM) as we were ascending the Hardanger Plateau a few years back. You can see more photos from the trip in this post - Camping on the Hardanger Plateau. It's definitely one of the better photos I've taken. I just love how the setting sun lights the everything up, with the mountains in the background, the rocks, the vegetation, the clouds and water reflection, and the way it all comes together to form the scene.
Aligning lens and perspective and adding the object
With the photo selected, the next step was to match the perspective and focal length in Blender, as described in more detail in the last installment of the series.
After some experimentation, I chose to go with a prism as shape the shape, and an icy material for its surface, as I really liked how the setting sun hitting the prism came out.
Water reflection in Photoshop
I simply duplicated the rendered object, reversed it and used the smudge tool to mimic the ripples of the water, among other minor tricks. I'd really like to learn how to do reflections properly in Blender directly, but this is the level I'm currently at. And honestly, I think it came out looking pretty realistic.
And that concludes the second installment of this series, from a total of seven. Thank you for checking it out! Feel free to visit the links below to read more.
