Beyond Earth, I wanted to explore the duality between the otherworldly and the earthly. This small piece was created as part of my daily drawing practice, but this time I tried to push creativity and expression further. It’s different from the anatomical models or figures I usually draw—this was simply an attempt to find a concept I could relate to. That’s why I play with the contrast between a natural element, like this simple yellow flower, and a being from another galaxy who, despite wearing a helmet for oxygen, can’t help but bring the flower close to their face to try to perceive its sweet aroma.
Beyond Earth, quiero mostrar la dualidad entre lo de otro mundo y terrenal. Es una pequeña obra realizada como parte de mis prácticas diarias de dibujo, pero esta vez sacando un poco más la creatividad y la expresión. Es distinta a los modelos anatómicos o figuras que siempre dibujo en las prácticas; simplemente fue tratar de buscar un concepto simple con el que me sintiera identificado. Por eso juego con la dualidad de un elemento natural, como esta simple flor amarilla, y un ser de otra galaxia, que a pesar de su casco para el oxígeno no puede evitar acercarse la flor a la cara para tratar de percibir su dulce aroma.
This was one of those drawings where the idea had been lingering in my mind for a long time, but I hadn’t dared to bring it to life. The concept had been circling in my thoughts for days, and I finally wanted to make time to draw it. Two beings from different worlds meet, each with their own light and divinity. For this illustration, I’ll be using Photoshop, mainly aiming for a more traditional effect with pastel watercolors. My brushes will be three: a watercolor brush, a pencil brush for the lines, and a blot-shaped brush for some specific details I want to add. With a blank canvas in front of me, I began with a general sketch, arranging the ideas that had been living in my head.
Este fue uno de esos dibujos que tienes la idea en mente desde hace mucho pero no te atreves a hacer, y es que el concepto estaba dando vueltas en mi mente hacía días y ya quería buscar el tiempo para dibujarlo. Dos seres de mundos distintos se encuentran, cada uno con su propia luz y divinidad. Para hacer mi dibujo estaré usando Photoshop, sobre todo para lograr un efecto más tradicional como acuarelas pasteles. Mis pinceles serán tres: uno de acuarela, uno de lápiz para la línea y uno en forma de mancha para unos detalles que quiero dar. Con el lienzo en blanco al frente comencé por el boceto general, encajando las ideas que tenía en mi cabeza.
With the first sketch ready, I begin to refine the shapes even further. I want him to have his eyes closed, as if enraptured by the scent. It’s contradictory, I know, because the helmet wouldn’t allow him to smell, but I think that choice strengthens the narrative even more. I also added some details; I really liked the face and the shape of the nose—it gives a stylized feel that I want to keep.
Con el primer boceto listo, comienzo a definir aún más las formas. Quiero que tenga los ojos cerrados, como extasiado por el aroma. Es contradictorio, lo sé, porque el casco no le permitiría oler, pero creo que esa decisión refuerza aún más la narrativa. También agregué algunos detalles; me gustó mucho el rostro y la forma de la nariz, le da un aire estilizado que quiero conservar.
We completed the entire drawing with the flower held in its long hands near the face, and the glass helmet that allows it to breathe on Earth. I love the final result of the drawing, and here I came up with a different idea than I originally had: to use a pastel color palette with closely related tones, ranging from purples to blues. In contrast, the flower will be green and yellow.
Completamos todo el dibujo con la flor sosteniéndola con sus largas manos cerca de la cara y el casco de cristal que le permitirá respirar en la Tierra. El resultado final del dibujo me encanta, y aquí se me ocurre, a diferencia de la idea que tenía en un principio, usar una paleta de colores de tonos pasteles, cercanos entre sí, que irán desde los morados a azules. Además, en contraste, la flor será verde y amarilla.

I started by applying a layer of color to the character so it would stand out from the background. I love the color I chose for the skin, but it won't be the final one. On top of that color, I'll be adding and distorting coats and layers of paint.
Empecé dando una capa de color al personaje para que destaque del fondo. Me encanta el color que escogí para la piel, pero no será el definitivo. Encima de ese color estaré agregando y deformando capas y capas de pintura.
After applying the base colors to the entire illustration, I began adding lighting and shadows, different nuances in search of brightness and reflections—especially on the helmet, which, along with the flower, will compete for the focal point of the drawing. I also added the reflection of the flower in the glass, which I consider very important to enhance the artwork.
Después de dar los colores base a toda la ilustración, fui dando iluminaciones y sombras, distintos matices tratando de buscar brillo y reflejos—sobre todo en el casco, que entre él y la flor se disputarán el foco de atención del dibujo. También hago el reflejo de la flor en el cristal, que lo considero muy importante para mejorar el dibujo.
Of course I used Pixverse and created this little animated scene—the vibe totally enchanted me.

The entire creative process will be summarized below to better appreciate the logical order—this was a drawing I loved making.
Todo el proceso creativo quedará resumido a continuación para que se aprecie mejor el orden lógico, este fue un dibujo que amé hacer.
The last step will be creating the light emanating from the flower and the final reflections. I also add some textures and correct the colors I'm not convinced by. I give a bit of shine to the entire composition.
Lo último será hacer la luz que emana de la flor y los reflejos finales. Además, agrego un poco de texturas y corrijo los colores que no me convencen. Doy un poco de brillo a toda la composición.
