Hi friends, I wanted to share with you a few pictures of my latest painting through the stages of development.
This small painting (24cm x 30cm) began as sketch of sorts. I thought I'd just play around a bit to get an idea down, which I would then paint on a larger scale, but in the end I pushed it all the way.
I began by blocking in the main elements, working in monochrome with white and brown over a light brown imprimatura.

Next, I started adding colour to general areas while defining the forms a bit more.
.
.
.
I continued to add some smoky/ethereal texture using lead white.
.
.
.
I added some trees and bushes which helped with the perspective and also increased the brightness and the top of the painting.
.
.
.
In the final stages I continued to refine the figures, added some flowers and fungi and worked on integrating the different parts of the painting.

The finished painting.
