"Back to Primitivity Banner" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Digital drawing over ultra-processed digital thing.] Back, I say. Go BACK to PRIMITIVITY! A thoughtful primitive hedonism... ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Back to Primitivity (Mini-Manifesto)" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Hand drawn arts, pixel arts, and strange thoughts over desk-top publishing.] It says what it needs to say... ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Gnasher" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Felt pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] One of our kids (who are now 25 and 29) used to say, "Gnasher" instead of "monster." I love it... (I wish I could remember which one it was. Both maybe?) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"DAY 15
Started my new contract on Objkt.com today, and minted both a new banner and a mini-manifesto! The THEME for this new year is a fun one:
BACK TO PRIMITIVITY!!!
I have a history of using "primitive" in my art projects, partially because my art is unschooled and "primitive," at least compared to "REAL" artists, but there is a secondary meaning hinted at in the word. The idea exists that folks who live in modern societies (like the U.S.A.) have lost a sense of the immediate, the NOW, because of a life of social conditioning. (If you're interested in these types of concepts, you can get ahold of me on TWEETERZ [@richardfyates], and we can discuss the topics at some length.) For this post, however, let's just assume that the reason I'm bringing this up is that I'm going to try to BREAK THRU the conditioning to a more immediate, perhaps more PRIMITIVE, consciousness. It's my plan, anyway, even if it's not completely fleshed out... Maybe it's more of a direction than a plan, but it seems like a good direction, nonetheless!
That's it for today!!! Thanks for stopping by!!!

"Critique of Critique" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Felt pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] These two critics are not particularly pleased with what they see, but what the hell do THEY know? They don't even participate. They just judge... ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"Going Over" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Felt pen on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.] I think what this piece represents is either hyperspace OR some kind of astral projection... Or, perhaps more sinister, a travel from one LIFE to another... What do you think? ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

"DAY 16
Woooo! Did some stuff today! My primary activity was digging through a slug of comic boxes, (boxes full of comics); I alphabetized a bunch of them, and pulled enough of them to fill a small box that I plan to READ in the near future. I want to read more comic book ISSUES - single books - to see how well the storytelling works in just a handful of pages. I've loved comics since I was a little kid, but not ALL of the stories have held up so well... Still, I really enjoy the visuals, particularly the movement from panel to panel (this was pointed out very well by Scott McCloud in UNDERSTANDING COMICS), which is often used to denote the passage of time... Visual storytelling PLUS text... (Just like my art!)
I also listened to a bunch of music today, which was awesome. Music is cool. (Punk, new wave, post-punk, techno, industrial... All the good stuff!)
Interestingly, I dug through my comics WITHOUT taking a picture of the various piles and boxes (although I thought about it), and I listened to tunes WITHOUT compiling a list to share online. In other words, I just did these things in the REAL WORLD... The PHYSICAL REALM, if you will, instead of doing things just to document them for a post. (LIVE IN THE NOW!!!)
I'm hoping to do more stuff outside of the computer...
Still, I also enjoy the online experience, honestly. I make a lot of my art on my phone... Technically, I START the art on paper or cardboard, usually, but the END RESULTS are colored digitally, so I don't see them "BIG" until I get the works onto the computer screen. (Sometimes, this leads to an unpleasant surprise, but usually, I love when stuff is fuzzy and pixelated and weird...) [I'm trying to be positive and upbeat, folks... Keep that head up!]
That's probably enough for today. Talk to you (whoever you are) again tomorrow!!!

"Not a Woodblock Print" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
[Liner pen on notebook page with digital embellishments and color removal.] It's NOT a woodblock print, but I wish it were! That would be pretty sweet... As it is, it's just a manic doodle in a notebook. (I also made a digital image with this monster as one of the layers. Look thru my big, old catalog of older tez artz to see if you can find it! (FUN!!!)) ---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)
