Splinterlands Social Media Challenge
Hello guys, I hope everyone is having a great day. For this week I'm back with an another entry for this week's social media challenge. Gotta say I managed to participate in most of the Splinterlands contests as of now and didn't skip any during this month. Consistency is the key to victory, right? So with that in mind I managed to finish this entry about an hour ago so I'm here to share it with you guys hehe. As for this week I decided to draw Gargoya Scrapper in my style. I hope you guys like it :)
Gargoya Scrapper
Process...
For this guy, I started looking for some poses on deviant art by pose archives and found one that suits his style. I decided to draw it but made additional changes like enhancing his muscular structure for the gargoyle anatomy. They are quite strong so I had to make this change to give the character justice. I drew a rough sketch on paper as usual but if you notice the rough sketch I also made a head drawing near to it because the initial head design I drew was incorrect so I drew it separately to merge with the full body later on while drawing the lineart on Ibis app. After I finished drawing the lineart I started to paint with respect to the source of light which is the light rays coming from his eyes. I shaded his body accordingly to get they contrast to show the presence of strong light around his eyes. For this I used two dark shades to get that depth.
Once I was finished rendering the body I moved on to painting the glow around his eyes. I didn't follow the original glow style instead I painted the glow in my style to make the glow look a bit more powerful. I didn't forget to paint the lightning around his eyes though. Those are cool so I had to keep it hehe. The glow is always done using Add layer. But for the extra powerful glow I painted whites at the center of both eyes and tapped with blue colour on an Add layer to increase the glow effect. Once I was done with that I started painting the highlights on his body in respect to the direction of the source of light. I amplified those highlights by duplicating the layer and added a Gaussian blur to make them glow as well.
I painted the wings next but I changed its look to make it look more badass by painting the wings in a style. I believe this looks much more evil and creepy than the official design hehe. After that I made a background by adding different hues of blue and violet and moved the colours around and applied a Gaussian blur on it. The idea was to mimick an moon light but I later twirled it to make it look like a portal opening behind him. After that I finished the painting by adding some leaves and lighting around him. That's about it guys and I hope you enjoyed the painting hehe.
