Taking part in these weekly challenges has definitely become an integral part of my routine, a moment to create more detailed illustrations, different from the quick sketches I usually do. Qué alegría estar una semana más escribiendo y dibujando una entrada para el Splinterlands Art Contest Week 355. Participar en estos retos semanales se ha convertido sin duda en una parte integral de mi rutina, un momento para elaborar dibujos de forma más detallada, distinto a los dibujos más rápidos que hago siempre. As you can see in today's fan art, our protagonist is none other than Blackmoor Nymph. So let's revisit a bit of her lore—I've checked the wiki before, and yes, this is the second time she's starred in one of my drawings. Although quite some time has passed since that first illustration, my skills have grown significantly. This time, I'm portraying her in a Chibi style, and I know I've been somewhat obsessed with this approach lately, but since I learned how to use it, I'm constantly surprised by how charming and versatile it is. As for the drawing software, I'll be using Photoshop as usual.

The Blackmoor Nymphs are creatures that dwell in the ancient forests of the Blackmoor Basin, acting as guardians of ley lines and the borders separating the Splinterlands from the Fey. They symbolize the connection between the natural and the magical, reminding us of the importance of protecting our environment and living in harmony with the land. It’s said that the Blackmoor Nymphs have existed since time immemorial, bearing witness to the history of the Splinterlands. Knowing this lore from the wiki, I’ve got a few ideas about the character—she must represent her magical universe and the union of nature and enchantment. So, the chibi version definitely needs her pointed ears like a nymph or sprite, leaf-adorned clothing, the vines wrapping around her arms, and the distinct gem on her forehead. All right, let's get started on the first sketch!
Las ninfas de Blackmoor son criaturas que habitan en los antiguos bosques de la cuenca de Blackmoor, actuando como guardianes de las líneas ley y las fronteras que separan los Splinterlands de la Fey. I'm sharing the final sketch, although it's just one part of the earlier drafts that go from the basic chibi form—built with spheres and cylinders—up to this point. The animation at the end of the process will showcase everything in more detail. I tried to preserve the pose from the original card since I'll be portraying her using her light power in the middle of a dark forest, reflecting that ethereal and natural magic. I struggled a bit with the hair—so much that I had to create a new layer and start over in another color to figure out why it wasn't coming out the way I liked. But I finally got it right. The sketch was so messy that I had to redraw it with final lines before diving into the line art.

En la animación del proceso al final se detalla aún mejor todo el proceso. With my sketch fully cleaned up, I use my favorite brush for the line art. I prefer pure black because I like my drawings to have clearly defined lines, although in more relaxed, less demanding pieces, I’ve been trying to ease away from that habit. Still, I couldn’t help making a few small adjustments to the final line art later on.
Con mi boceto totalmente limpio, utilizo mi pincel favorito para el line art. Me gusta usar negro puro porque me gusta que mis dibujos tengan bien definidas las líneas, aunque en los dibujos más libres y menos exigentes estoy tratando de eliminar eso. So this is how my drawing looks with the final line art. I’m sharing the images of both line art versions superimposed so you can notice the small differences and minor adjustments I made. I didn’t add line art to certain elements that I’ll draw over later.

Now comes the fun part—coloring! But before I start filling in by sections, I create a base layer with a block of color, which I’ll later use to apply the appropriate tones. First, I lay down a layer of completely flat colors, then I move on to adding light and shadow. Since I want my drawing to have a certain sense of three-dimensionality, I’ll be using an airbrush to softly shade certain areas, as well as adding highlights, blush on the cheeks, and a few flushed details on the body.

Now my character is fully done—I'm especially pleased with the facial expression, and I believe once I add the final details like the power effects, lighting, and background, it’ll look even better. I’m also exporting my character as a PNG, since I always like having a separate copy without the background in case I want to do something else with it later.
Ya tengo todo mi personaje realizado. En especial, me gustó mucho la expresión en el rostro, y creo que cuando le dé los detalles finales del poder, la luz y el fondo, se verá aún mejor. Aprovecho y exporto mi personaje como PNG, porque siempre me gusta tener una copia separada del fondo por si necesito hacer algo más con el personaje.
Now it’s time for the background—but before diving in, I use the airbrush with soft light blending mode to create the glowing power that radiates from her hands. Then I switch to a textured brush to paint the shadows of the trees surrounding the nymph. Over all of this, I apply a blue layer in multiply mode to sculpt the lights and shadows directly on her body, all emanating from the magical light source. Finally, I add some glimmers and sparkles throughout the forest to amplify that enchanting atmosphere.
Ahora es el turno del fondo, pero antes utilizo el pincel de aerógrafo y el modo de fusión luz suave para crear el poder de la luz que sale de sus manos.
