Intros are tough, should I repeat myself and simply say, Hi everyone and welcome to my process. I'm Byron and I can't remember doing anything other than drawing zombies.
It's been that long.
Today I was livestreaming on Twitch and I drew a zombie on a piece of card paper I found.
I decided to constrain myself and I zoomed in and drew a box so I knew where the camera edges where. And then I started to draw a head.
Once I had the head established I added the eyes. I went big and circular on these eyes and I liked it.
Next up I added a nose. If you break it down into the most basic shape, the nose is just a triangle. On some of my drawings I leave the nose as is. Just a shadow to define the bottom of the nose.
In this case though, I went and drew in the rest of the nose too.
At this point I began to realize that my angle was a bit weird but I was committed so I adapt. Instead of a straight view face, this is more like a 3/4 view and I figured that I will show it more with the mouth.
Next up, now that I have completely broken my barriers I need to define new boundaries for this head. I'll start with the cheek bone to emphasize angle and rotation.
Then I add the ear and neck on the other side to fully realize the head shape and new boundaries.
Only things left is to add the hair and define the body. Due to the weird angle of the face I went with weird angles for the rest of it. I didn't break the top boundary much since that was also close to the edge of the paper.
So after all that it's time to start painting this big tooth angry creep. I start with blocking in the basic colours for the hair, clothes and face.
Then I add the blood :) Can't go wrong with lots of red all over the page to show the rage that is on display. Right?
To add depth with shadows I start using the blue again. I put it on the face and more on the clothes and in the ear as well.
I kept this one pretty simple over all and concentrated on thickening the lines and tightening things up. I didn't bother painting the background since I liked the cardboard feel to it.
Then after the paint dried I used the gel pens to bring out some highlights and a few details, tweaked the colours a little bit more in photoshop . . . and voila, I created a ginger zombie =)
I edited the Twitch livestream video and uploaded it to youtube. This link works though I do not know how to embed.
If anyone likes to collect NFTs I minted this one on the Solana blockchain via Mallow. I even included the process video.
Well that's it for me and my ' How to Draw a Ginger Zombie ' process. If you're curious I used a regular ink pen and standard watercolour paints. Thanks for reading. If you have suggestions or ideas for things I could improve upon, or drawing prompts, I'd love to know.
Cheers,
byron
