I'll try to keep this short but informative. There's bad, or not-so-good, news and there's good news.
The not-so-good news...LUV
I'm keeping LUV and @luvshares on pause. "Why pause it?" is, of course, the pertinent question. This was a tough decision; LUV is a dear project to me. But here are the reasons:
- The mission of LUV has been: to spread love on the Hive blockchain. The idea was to give a kind word or encouragement to someone and a digital token of LUV was also passed along in addition to those words. I think this happened a lot, especially in the earlier years, but this has become less common.
- LUV has now become more of a pilfering thing. The tokens have become candy in a jar waiting to see if they can be stolen.
- My thought is that kind words always were and still are the most important thing in the spirit of sharing love with others on the chain. This can still be done! Sharing love and empathy requires no digital token! As it matured, the token really wasn't doing what it was intended to do.
- From the very start, I've always thought that if the project got too spammy, it would be time stop. I think we've reached that tipping point.
- The LUV token has been targeted several times over the past 5-ish years. Usually, it involved a central figure setting up multiple accounts, steady farming of the coin, then suddenly aggregating those farmed coins into one account, then selling/crashing the token value. And, there were recent situations. These were targeting HBIT/Wusang and were more sophisticated: seemed to be auto, script, or bot run pilfering of the HBIT and Wusang tokens. This caused me to shut things down and think things over.
To sum, the main reason for this decision is that LUV has moved away from its initial intention, and become little more than a target to be taken. And, again, you can still share love on Hive with kind words.
LUV has gotten a lot of help and support over the years from a lot of Hivers - technical, HP/RC, moral. I've got to thank my good Hive-friend @wesphilbin mostly, as he's been the #1 encourager. If you haven't yet, check out his ThoughtfulDailyPost community. It's in the same vein as LUV.
In American politics, whenever a political candidate drops out of a primary race because they're not getting the votes, he or she announces they're "suspending the campaign." They're not exactly ending it, it's just...suspended. That's what's going on here. LUV is suspended and paused.
So, you never say never and you never know what may come in the future. But, at least for now, LUV will stay on pause. Loov and Luvee will continue to ride off into the sunset together.
The good news...HBIT
HBIT or @hivebits (and the accompanying @wusang game) is back. It is live and working now.
Despite the most recent "situations" above, I reactivated HBIT. A couple of reasons for this:
- A minimum reputation level was set. Anyone below a reputation of 35 cannot mine HBIT. In the most recent attack, the accounts seemed entirely to have a rep of 25, meaning they were new and/or inactive. These were almost certainly, bot/script generated "users."
- I feel HBIT is different. It's not a "tipping token," it's more of a mining token. You put in the effort, you get the reward...proof-of-work. I called it "proof-of-comment" in the introduction post.
- And, there's the very simple roll-of-dice "game" of Wusang built in. A random chance of getting bonus "treasure tokens", or bitcoin sats in the form of ecash. (Yes, real bitcoin satoshis, and yes, it's still out there in the game waiting to be found.)
We'll have to see how it goes going forward. We'll cross that bridge if it comes.
But, to sum, HBIT (and the built-in Wusang game) are back and live.

And oh, one last thing and this is good news too, @helphive is live again. If you didn't know, you can get help with Hive questions by simply typing ! help (without a space after the !) anywhere on the Hive blockchain. Ask a question, use that code, and someone should get back to you soon (the goal is within 24 hours).
