Update: winner is @pablodare
BTC block 734888 shows a 4 first in the hash, thus pablodare wins. A full post will be forthcoming. Congrats pablodare! 101.3 HBIT sent as a prize: https://he.dtools.dev/tx/81640105074338a84258d031c5825ee5d113b903
It's time to pick a winner in the HBITgame and award the 101.3 HBIT prize (the sum of the sale of the four cards). Look for BTC block #734888 to pick the winner.
All of the game's details are on the HBITgame intro page. There are four "cards" or entries to win. The owners are:
Card 1 owner: @pablodare bought for 15.1 HBIT tx: https://he.dtools.dev/tx/27a48d2b9a839a884a656d4b2c8df7fc57fface2
Card 2 owner: @forexbrokr bought for 20 HBIT tx: https://he.dtools.dev/tx/e7b09c70e9d0ca56f5dd491bccd74e2433362d46
Card 3 owner: @pablodare bought for 31.1 HBIT tx: https://he.dtools.dev/tx/141928daa3181370f2b308ac5b99fa740a169240
Card 4 owner: @pablodare bought for 35.1 HBIT tx: https://he.dtools.dev/tx/9ec87c75236f4a1f34c623cf57aaa6e35580e516
I'll repeat the process for picking a winner below.
How the winner is chosen
Hivebits is about Hive's blockchain and Bitcoin's ethos. So, the HBITgame will exist on the Hive blockchain and will use the Bitcoin chain to select a random winner. Here's how: a Bitcoin block number will be chosen and the hash for that block will be used. Bitcoin block hashes always start with a bunch of zeroes: 000000...followed by random numbers and letters. We're looking for a 1, 2, 3, or 4 to find the winning card. The first number (1, 2, 3, or 4) in the block hash after the zeroes will determine the winner. For instance, take BTC block 732464:

The image is from https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/blocks, but any Bitcoin block explorer will work.
Okay, who won in the example above?
Above, we see lots of zeroes and then an 8. Since we're looking for a 1, 2, 3, or 4 only, the 8 doesn't help. Continuing to the right, we see 9 (no help), then an f (skip it), and a d, and 7, and an a, and a 6, and then finally a 4. In this case, card #4 would be the winner. Look at block 732465, card #3 would have won. In block 732466, card #2 would have won.
If there is no 1, 2, 3, or 4 in the hash, we'll wait for the next block, then use the same process until we get a winner.
Simple.
Watch for BTC block #734888
To pick a winner, we'll go with Bitcoin block number 734888. I like Blockchair, but any Bitcoin block explorer will work.
Why this block? Any future block number will do, but three reasons I chose this one:
- The plan from the start was to pick the winner on 5/4 and I tend to be a stick-to-the-plan type of person.
- That block should pop up on 5/4 (hopefully 😀).
- It seems like an easy enough number to focus on with the 888 on the end.
So, good luck cardholders! After that block gets mined, I'll send the winner 101.3 HBIT.
