Mientras lee interesadamente un artículo sobre su trabajo doctoral, Eric —un joven y nobel científico dedicado a la teoría del caos — siente que una mirada le acecha desde hace rato. Sin dar tiempo a más conjeturas, interrumpe la lectura pero, al levantar la vista, ve cómo alguien con ojos somnolientos, confusos y desorientados, lo mira a través de un espejo colgado en la pared. Lo más extraño es que desde hace cuatro noches el mismo episodio se ha repetido. Cuando voltea para ver quién está a sus espaldas, alcanza sólo a distinguir una sombra corporal sobre el suelo y el reflejo de la tenue luz sobre la pared del dormitorio. ¿Quién eres? —pregunta con voz demandante — más el silencio se torna imperante en el ambiente. Sin inmutarse por esto, toma lápiz y papel y comienza a trazar desordenadas líneas sobre la hoja de lectura mientras espera que el evento suceda nuevamente. Pero no ocurre. Al rato tocan a la puerta y como un destello fugaz que estalla en su memoria, recuerda que desde hace cuatro noches está fuera de su casa; es el médico de guardia quien a venido a valorarle su estado mental. While reading an article about his doctoral work with interest, Eric —a young Nobel scientist dedicated to chaos theory— feels that a glance has been haunting him for a long time.
