This morning started like no other, but I didn’t even realize how strange it was until much later. I woke up feeling relaxed and peaceful, thinking it was still very early. The sky through the curtain looked dim, and there was a quiet stillness in the room that made me believe it was just the early hours of the day. So, I turned over on my bed, stretched gently, and smiled to myself, happy that I had some more time to enjoy the comfort of my mattress.
Normally, I’m the kind of person who sets an alarm and gets up on time. But somehow, I didn’t hear it ring this morning. Maybe my phone died overnight, or maybe I turned it off in my sleep without even knowing. All I know is that I kept lying down, thinking, will just rest for a few more minutes.and I almost loose mind when realized that is late
My body did not feel rushed, and the usual neighborhood sounds was so quiet, there are people who normally sweep the compound but everything was mute , those who normally fetch and those who prepared food for their children to take to school and everything to seemed everywhere was muted. That gave me more reason to believe it was still too early to get up. I even thought Why get up now when I can enjoy the silence a little more?
When I pick my phone to check the time, and that’s when my heart nearly jumped out of my chest, and I was surprised at what my phone screen has displayed 8:40 AM this morning how wish I knew what was going to happen I will have rechecked my alarm before going the bed last night.
I was just thinking my my eyes were playing tricks on me. But no time was flying, and I had overslept terribly. I sat up immediately, confused and a little angry at myself. My mind started racing, Did I miss something? Did someone try to call me? Am supposed to be at my work place by now.
I quickly jumped out of bed and rushed to open the curtain properly, and that’s when it hit me outside was bright and sunny. People were moving about, shops were opening, children were already at school, and the day was clearly in full motion. I had slept past my normal time, and am not on drugs i was ok, how could this be,have I over stressed my self?
There was no time to waste. I brushed my teeth quickly and I take my bath, I skipped my breakfast and rushed to put on my clothes quickly, while I was wondering how my compound will be so quiet.
What made it even worse was that I had some important things to do today. I was supposed to follow up on some errands and check on my maize farm project. Missing early morning meant I was already behind schedule.
As I rushed out of the house, I could not help but laugh at myself. How did I think it was still early morning when I had already slept into the late morning hours? The whole situation taught me a lesson: no matter how calm and quiet things may seem, it’s always good to check the time, Because time doesn’t wait for anyone.
Next time, will make sure my alarm is working and maybe even set two alarms. One to wake me up, and another just in case I try to fool myself again like what I just did this morning
