Hello Everyone!
I thought of making a post today about how to improve readability as it is also part of my Dissertation regarding Dyslexia-Compatible texts.
Since I do not have time to port over the citations, I will simply let it in as opinion.
So we all know how sometimes chunks of text can cause our eyes to get confused and stop following the flow of text in any given content, that is because we tent to remember by "shape", you may ask what shape?
Shape related to text body, if we notice,
example:
we will see that our brain tends to remember unique patterns and recognize them and as such, I would say it makes it easier for the reader to get into the content and if lost to also get back into the content.
These shapes marked on the Image are acting both as breathing room as well as a guidance.
I usually do Shift+Enter (on the Computer Keyboard) to break the text down into an easier to read structure, it create a shape which is more recognizable and easier to follow. 📝
It is also recommended to not break the text (shift+enter) unless there is a comma, let the next line of your text body start from the start of a sentence if able.
Shift+Enter controls the flow and structure, usually on most devices.
I would be curious about your writing style too and how you prefer text to be presented. ✍️
When it comes to fonts, according to a research (by Rello, L. et al) the reading speed is affected by fonts, usually serifs are not preferred and clean fonts like "Helvetica" are more welcomed.
Unfortunately we cannot directly change the font style in Hive Blogging and can only use "Unicode Fonts Generator Tools" as a workaround so this is more of a tip for normal form text.
Another tip for a better formatting would be to avoid using "centered" text when we aim for a consistent reading flow and instead use left-aligned margins, left instead of right because that is how most are "programmed" to read.
As you can see the text is more readable when formatted correctly and organized nicely,
broken down into smaller chunks for the reader to digest.
This is my first Post in the writers community and one of the first couple of posts in Hive, looking forward to writing more!
Hopefully you found it helpful,
I wish you a wonderful rest of the day/night. 😊
