It’s me again, @doughnahhh, back again with another blog series! Today, I’m super duper excited to share with you all my new blog series. Today, it is all about our fiesta celebration. Our official fiesta date was originally set on May 13, but due to the election some of our sitio officers decided to move the celebration to May 10. However, in our family we still chose to follow and celebrate on the original fiesta date, May 13. There are so many several reasons for our decision.
First, when I filed for my leave from work, I specifically indicated there was May 13 as the start date since that has always been the traditional day of our fiesta, and my leave request was already approved, and it is accordingly aligning with our plans. That’s one of the reasons why we are not celebrating our fiesta on May 10, as some of our sitio officers decided.
Additionally, some of our invited guests confirmed their availability on May 13 which made it more pressing to hold the celebration on that date. A very special reason is also the arrival of my grandmother’s sister and her family, who are coming all the way from Mindanao and Their scheduled arrival is on May 13 as well. Given all these reasons, it made perfect sense for us to celebrate the fiesta on May 13, just as we always have, and it is a reasonable right? In this blog series, I’ll be bringing you through our preparations, the food and the highlights of our celebration. So stay tuned, and I am hoping you will enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed celebrating and writing this blog.
Early in the morning, we began our preparations because our visitors we are expecting to arrive are starting around lunchtime. Everyone was busy getting things ready like cooking and organizing everything to make sure the day would go smoothly. As we were checking the ingredients that are needed for the dishes, we caught on that the pork was missing. I ask my sister immediately because she is the one who was assigned to buy it yesterday, and it turned out that my sister had forgotten to bring it home after buying it yesterday.
Without wasting any time, we quickly go to bogo where she buys it, and to retrieve the pork. The sun had just risen at that time as we went to Bogo to get giniling pork. The roads were still quiet, which made the trip a bit faster. We are still hoping to get back as soon as possible so we can continue with the cooking of the Shanghai and other things we need to do. It was a bit of a hassle, but we knew how important it was to have it back so everything was perfect for the dish.
As we were on our way to retrieve the giniling pork, a familiar feeling began to creep in: hunger in our stomachs hahaha. The thought of the food suddenly became hard to ignore. We saw a Jollibee as we drove and stopping by at the stoplight, we spotted the bright red sign of Jollibee glowing like a beacon.
It caught my attention. We pulled over and headed inside, drawn by the promise of crispy Chickenjoy and warm rice and spaghetti and also the sundae. The comforting smell of fried chicken and gravy instantly lifted our spirits. After ordering our meals and finally sitting down to eat, we felt recharged. With our appetites satisfied and our energy restored, we were ready to continue our errand and finally get the pork giniling we had set out for.
We’re already in the area where my sister bought the pork giniling that she forgot to get after she bought some other ingredients for Lumpia Shanghai, and they left the pork giniling. The same vendor, Ate, where my sister originally bought the giniling, was able to hold the pork giniling onto it for her. They also kept it safe and stored it properly in the fridge so it wouldn’t spoil. So that she can just give it to us when we come to get it.
We're finally home and have successfully retrieved the pork giniling. We're now helping with the last-minute preparations that need to be fixed that still need to be done. The Mass will end in just a few hours the chapel is behind our house, and then it will be time for the salu-salo, a time for everyone to dine together and rejoice.
Here are some of our visitors.
That is for now hivers, I and my family is truly enjoyed every moment in our fiesta and our hearts are so full of joy knowing that we were united once in a blue moon. It was such a blessing to see our beloved relatives and friends during our fiesta celebration. I didn’t take so many photos because we were so busy catching up in happiness, laughter and connection, we were connecting the present and cherishing every single minute that we were still together in one frame.
