Last week, I was having one of those terrible days. At home from work, my phone that was open to keep me company was at 5%.
I was rushing for a job interview. I saw online. I was already late when I learned that my wallet was no more with me. At that moment, I decided to panic. I had no cash. I had no cards. There is no way to get across the town. Right now, I must look like a very big mess, running outside the bus stop.
And I saw this older guy in a worn jacket walked up and asked if I was okay. At first, I mumbled and told him about my wallet, expecting him to just...console me and move on. But instead, he put out a couple of dollars from his pocket and just gave it to me at once. Just get where you're going, he said.
I tried to protest and told him that he should never mind and walk away. But he still insisted that I took the money. Oh, I collected the money. I boarded a bus at the bus stop and happily, I made it to the interview and landed the job.
That 10 bucks, for me, it wasn't just money.
It was a hope. It was a lifeline. It was one of my best moments ever. Although I never saw that guy again. But that small heart of mine has been with me all through my life.
I do not believe that strangers will go out of their way for you anymore. I thought it was just an old or just a myth in today's world.
But I couldn't believe that it's no longer a myth.
One person's generosity can just turn your day around. I remind you that there are good people in this world. And sometimes they do it when you least expect it. So, this is your challenge next time.
The next time you see someone struggling, be that stranger that changes a person's life.
A tiny gesture can just ripple out in ways you can never imagine. Showing kindness isn't a myth. It is powerful.
