In 2021 I was writing and recording almost every single day and by December I had run out of steam and a desire to make music. Going into 2022 I decided to make it less of a duty and just go with the flow, it has been two months since I last wrote or recorded a song, however, I am positive that I am ready to get back to creating music.

As expected, once I started to try writing music again I was faced with severe writer's block, even if you’re not a songwriter if you create articles and posts on the Hive blockchain then I’m sure you’ve experienced periods where your mind is empty and uninspired. This may be due to stress, a long absence from the creative process, or burnout…that is you have expended all your creative juices and need time to recharge.
Writer's block for me is very annoying, whether with songwriting or writing articles because I like being in total control of my creative process so over the years I have learned a couple of ways to push past the writer's block and work when you need to.

The first thing is to try to get inspired, if I’m trying to write music I listen to other artists that challenge my ability as an artist, J cole, Wale, Nipsey, Kendrick Lamar, and Burna boy…these artists push me as a songwriter and listening to their work is often the push start I need.
When it comes to writing articles or even posts for hive, I just read other posts…there is a lot of talent on the hive blockchain, and writers in certain communities will challenge and inspire you.
The second method I’ve learned is to take a short break and engage in something else, my escape is usually movies or short videos. When you allow your brain to calm down and not worry about writing it is more likely to cooperate with you.

The third method is to keep a list of prompts or ideas as soon as they occur to you for later use, this method has proved invaluable over the years and helps especially with severe writer's block where your brain seems as empty as a deserted field.
Lastly, Just write…I’m writing a post about breaking writer's block because I have writer's block right now and this is the only thing I could come up with. I’ve learned over time that if I let it fester I risk the block becoming worse and lasting for longer than necessary…sometimes you have no other choice but to put pen to paper and write…you might struggle at first but there’s always a spark in creatives regardless of whether we realize it or not and that spark is guaranteed to come through for you if you take the first step and just make the effort.
A bonus tip, if you need to work and your writer's block is making that hard, envisage the hunger that awaits you if you are unable to get your work done…always works…Sapa is very inspiring.
(Sapa is a Nigerian slang for acute hunger in case you wondered.)
