Hope arrived with springtime. It had been a tough winter.
Another bad year, people were saying.
But when the birds started singing, and the flowers started to pop out of the cold ground, people were feeling that perhaps the world had turned a corner. Perhaps it wasn't as bad as all those doom-mongers were saying.
Perhaps everything was going to be ok.
And then, on the first day of summer; the lights went out.
It wasn't a gradual thing.
One day the birds were shouting about how fantastic it was that the sun was coming up and the day was going to be brilliant for building nests, eating worms and insects and screwing.
And then the next day... nothing.
The sun didn't come up.
At first, Kelper thought his mobile phone alarm was on the blink. Perhaps he's set it wrong. So he just shrugged and turned over and went back to sleep. But then, when he woke, it was still dark.
And he had like one hundred messages from his friends and family going "what the fuck, man! Where's the sun gone?"
