It's amazing how some people can create a problem where none existed.
I met a person who, from our first interaction, seemed intent on asserting his superiority over me. While I remained respectful, his arbitrary and meaningless critiques fell on my deaf ears.
When these petty power plays failed, he moved to cursing me outright that I would get cancer.
There was no social or logical reason for such a statement except that it sounded like what he had said.
It seems he was desperate to establish a hierarchy, assuming he had the right to humble anyone he deemed below his station.
The entire interaction felt as though I had slipped into a parallel world where I was expected to humbly prostrate myself and greet the VIP, giving him the deference he demanded.
There was no question of Am I the asshole?— that was obviously a title someone else had earned.
