He'll have to beg for his bone.
There's no way for him to get it otherwise.
Oh. Shera was wrong. His bone was right there a moment ago. It fell from his mouth. He picked it up without missing a beat. the human hadn't been quick enough.
Incredible.
What a fast dog my brother is, though Shera. I have a lot to learn. He's so much older, but he's still quick at getting the things he wants.
Shera looked at her other brother. He was also older, but younger than Belmont. He was kind of confused about what to do with himself. He'd joined the family most recently, and was...not struggling, exactly, but he just didn't know how to belong. He was fierce when he should be gentle and tentative when he could have been confident. He wanted to capture the dropped food, but wasn't sure enough to be quick about it. He hadn't learned, really, what was ok and what wasn't in this family.
It was ok. He'd be safe here anyways. Shera relaxed. She got annoyed when he destroyed her toys, but in the end, there was always a strand left for her to cuddle with, and that was enough for her. Belmont was having a harder time being adaptable. Or...just having a hard time in general. She didn't think about it much, but she knew.
