It's Monday, so that means it's time for @felt.buzz's ZAPFIC Monday challenge. This week's challenge is a ZAPFIC50, so writing a story in exactly 50 words is expected. The prompt is "shelf" and presented the opportunity to explore the lesser used meaning of the word. Often, we delay or put something aside after deciding to chart a new course and focus on another matter of our choice. This doesn't mean that the situation or project isn't important, just that for whatever reason, we don't want to spend valuable time toward a resolution.
My story is below:
The air was thick with confusion.
After a long pause, Daphne gathered her portfolio while her perplexed competitors watched.
"So, a shelf project is what you're relegating my proposal to after signaling the green light months ago?"
Matthew avoided her eyes.
Disparaging, then low-balling his company wouldn't be tolerated.
