Good day, my lovely Hive family! I’m super excited to share this prompt because it instantly takes me down memory lane back to those hilarious and unforgettable moments with the bike riders in my village.
Let me gist you how it all started...
I had traveled all the way from Lagos to our village to attend our annual Traditional Yam Festival. This festival is a big deal People from far and wide villagers, town people, even those abroad return home to celebrate. It marks the beginning of eating the new yam harvest, and trust me, it’s one celebration you don’t want to miss. The whole place buzzes with life, music, masquerades, dance, and of course… motorcycles!
Now, here’s the sweet part...
During this festive season, the big boys and “slay queens” usually park their cars. Why? Because the real MVPs of the season are the bike riders Business booms for them, and they make mad cash. And guess what? I always join the hustle!
As a student, I usually head back to the village not just for the fun and food but also to ride my dad’s bike and hustle small money. My dad doesn’t use the bike for public transport, but once the festival season comes around, he graciously allows me to put it to good use. God bless that man
Now here comes the iconic part of the story…
Every single time before I leave the house to start my bike runs, I always shout,
Abeg, PASS ME THE HELMET!”
Usually directed at my younger sister, who by now is probably tired of hearing it! I’ve said it so often both intentionally and unconsciously that it’s become a family slogan. In fact, once festival season is approaching, I start getting calls from home:
Domzy, you no dey come for PASS ME THE HELMET season this year?”
We all laugh and joke about it like it’s a family tradition, and I’ll always respond:
Omo mummy, I dey come ooo! Na money matter be this!
Even now, as a university student, those memories remain fresh and priceless. “PASS ME THE HELMET” is no longer just a phrase it’s a symbol of hustle, joy, and community spirit for me. It’s that one season I’ll never forget in life as it has become part of my stories as a school that rides bike in a part season every year ..
The season is fast approaching as it happens every September...
Family must surly call me to remind me with our slogan😂
