Greetings Reader
I keep coming back to Fell Dragon during the week. Missing the characters I had spent three years creating and I feel a little sad. Which sparked my brain into overdrive and I am considering writing another small novel. The ideas are slowly being laid out but I think it should be as good as Fell Dragon. Now I just need the time to sit and write.
Anyway, enjoy your update!
Nothing more was said on the matter as the three returned to the house to ask the occupants to go sit outside. Saita moved into the kitchen to help Baks move the food outside, while Siar and Bolx had everyone move outside with their drinks and whatever snacks were still available. Siar ensured that there was a space next to Bolx, specifically keeping it open for Saita.
This wasn’t missed by Doran as he sat across from Bolx. He was well aware of the relationship that had blossomed since Saita had returned to Saith. While he didn’t mind it developing, he wondered what would happen once Saita had to return to the human colonies to start her training with Pura. It seemed to him that Bolx was still very much needed by the Saith crown, and it was highly unlikely that Saasha or Brucel would allow him to leave to be with Saita. Then again, what better way to forge an alliance than by allowing this relationship to continue?
The human cast his eye to Aidan, who had decided to sit between Baks and Silens. Saita already had an heir, and there was no need for one to come from any relationship she was to forge, even if there was some way for her to eventually have one of her own blood again.
“I know what you’re thinking.” Said the lanky Saith who was seated on his right.
“Oh?”
Gatex grinned and said, “There has already been talk about what will happen when the girl returns to the humans.”
“And?”
“I believe you know the answer to that already.” Gatex looked across the table as Saita seated herself next to Bolx.
Hesitantly at first, Bolx reached for her hand and squeezed it, receiving a soft smile from the human.
“The queen would willingly lose a vital player in this game?”
“She knows the joy Saita brings to Bolx. He would only be miserable and useless if he was left behind. I’m sure there won’t be a permanent change in address if you know what I mean, but extended visits won’t be discouraged.” Gatex drank from his glass and continued, “Bolx can do as much good here as on your home world. Right now, until we can capture a Wolven, there isn’t much we can do to move forward other than to strengthen our borders and soldiers. Splitting those two will result in someone being distracted when they shouldn’t be.”
Gatex then grinned, “And anyway, it’s not often that a male is handed over to a female to become royalty.”
Doran snorted into his drink but couldn’t help but smile. Gatex wasn’t wrong. If the relationship between Saita and Bolx continued, the Saith would eventually become King Consort. Something Doran was sure neither the young lovebirds were aware of.
“Just a pity they will have no children.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t be so sure.” Gatex took another sip of his drink.
“You’re a spy, I’ve learned that. You should know that Saita is infertile.”
“Not infertile, just can’t have children. There’s a difference.”
“How is there is difference?”
Gatex looked Doran in the eye and muttered, “Do you truly believe the mad doctor looked at her abilities and willingly spayed her like an animal? No, I’m sure if she allowed doctors to have a closer look at her, they would find out what was causing the problem. However, until she’s willing to face that problem instead of talking around it, we will never know.”
Doran was sure that the Spy Master was right in his guesses, and he wondered if he should bring it up with his charge. He looked up at the young woman laughing at something Siar had said, the last time she had been this happy was before she had been taken. He didn’t want to bring up something that could give her false hope.
“I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Royal Guards tend to have unexpected children. It’s nothing new.”
“To my knowledge, they intentionally go out to sire offspring.”
“True, but I wasn’t referring to the Guards but rather those that have the name. Took forever but eventually Saasha was conceived. King Brucel was a total surprise, as was his son. Nothing happens and then bam, the stupid stick changes colour, and people are trying to guess the gender.”
Doran grinned, “That would shake the royalty up a bit if she did have a half-Saith baby.”
“That’s the spirit!” Gatex got to his feet and raised his glass.
The table grew silent as he cleared his throat.
“Thank you, Saita, for not only welcoming our family into your home but being brave enough to cook with our father. He can be a bit of a hardass, but he likes you, so that’s a good sign for your future with us. Welcome to our family, and may you spend decades with us and our quirks.”
“Oh, sit down!” said Siar with a laugh, “If anyone is to make a speech, it should be our hostess.”
“By all means.” Gatex bowed and looked at Saita with a grin, “Your Majesty.”
Doran was almost sure that Saita would shrink into herself with embarrassment, but instead, she stood up with a glass and said, “To family, friends, allies, and little feet.”
She winked at Aidan, who grinned.
“Thank you for making me feel like I am part of a family again. It’s going to break my heart having to go back to the humans soon, but I’ll cherish everything you have all done for me. Everything.”
“Sit girl.” Said Silens. “Your guests are hungry, and the food is getting cold.”
Doran nodded his head in acknowledgment of the speech as Saita sat down. He felt privileged to have been included in the event. Soon, discussion around the table picked up as food was shared. Doran noticed that Saita indeed tried to eat with everyone else, but she mostly stuck to the vegetables and fruits. He had hoped the final surgery would have fixed the way she perceived food, but it looked like it hadn’t managed that.
“Can’t build muscle without meat.” Said Silens with a huff.
“I’ll get there eventually.” Said Saita with a grin, “I am at least eating.”
“True.”
“Also, my mother sent dessert and I want to see if I can appreciate its flavour.”
“Urgh, that brown slab in the fridge?” asked Baks.
“Yes. I didn’t have many memories of when I was younger. One of my favourite memories was when Mom made a cake for my chosen birthday. It wasn’t very good, I mean she’s a Queen and didn’t do much cooking, but it was special and marked my first year of being with them.”
“I love chocolate cake!” exclaimed Aidan.
“After you clean your plate.” Insisted Saita.
Aidan looked at the leftover vegetables on his plate and viewed the remains of the meat dish on his mother’s plate. He got up from his seat, walked over to his mother with his plate, and scraped his vegetables from his onto hers while helping himself to the meat. He then walked back to his sit place and finished the meal.
While the rest of the table sat in stunned silence, Bolx and Doran roared with laughter. Doran then pointed a finger at Saita and exclaimed, “If there was any doubt about his bloodline being yours, this proves it. You have the exact attitude when you first came to the castle.”
Saita could find no fault in what her son had done. He had cleared his plate, as instructed. She chuckled and shook her head.
“He’s going to be a handful when he goes to the academy.” Said Bolx as he looked up at his father, “Good luck.”
Baks snorted, “If I could handle you three, I can handle a human.”
The plate now clean, Aidan showed his mother and said, “Cake please.”
