Greeting Readers
I had a lot of time this week to work on my own personal writing, and you all get to benefit from it!
Please enjoy his update, where Saita finally gets to reunite with Bolx after so many years apart. But don't think that this is the end. It's actually only the first half of the book, and there is still lots to come!
Bolx had lost track of how many Wolven had descended upon them. He had thought that he could protect all his children, but he was barely managing to keep his own neck from being ripped out.
Now and again, he would glance to the side to see all the children fighting for their lives. He didn’t know how long they were going to manage this, especially with him being a limb down. He couldn’t die here.
The twins had told him that he would be going home soon. He had believed them. But when the creatures had attacked then, the twins had seemed so confused and unprepared. They didn’t know that this was going to happen and that meant that something had changed, and they were in real danger.
He refused to give up. He was going to make it back to Saita with her son one way or another. Even if he died doing it, as long as Saita got her son back, he knew that she would be able to continue one way or another. But if he was lost here, there was no way that Saita would survive that.
A set of powerful teeth snapped closed mere inches from his face, and the only reason they hadn’t taken his face off was that another massive Wolven had dug its teeth into its spine and pulled it away.
Shock and disbelief nearly overcame Bolx when he recognised the Wolven that had done it. He could never forget those markings. Red-Eye tossed the attacking Wolven over his shoulder, and in doing so, the person that had been on his back was dislodged, landing awkwardly in the snow.
“Fight now, answers later.” Snapped the young man.
Sensing that they were here to help, Bolx accepted what was happening and threw himself into battle as two new motley Wolven jumped at him. He wasn’t alone though. Every time a Wolven lunged at his crippled side, someone was there to defend it along with his back. At first, he had continued to protect himself, but this individual was so good at what they were doing, that he eventually, he just let them handle it while he fought with everything he had.
The fight had been terrible, and soon, the area that had been used for training not an hour earlier was blood-drenched, and bodies of Wolven lay everywhere. There seemed only enough time to take a breath before another wave came, but this time, they had more people fighting and had become more organised. They turned the wave easily, and this time, no more returned.
It was during this lull that Bolx could finally think. He knew that the person who had been fighting at his back had to be someone who knew about his missing limb and had trained with him for years to match a specific style to ensure he would never have an opening someone could make use of. He wasn’t sure who it could possibly be and was almost too scared to turn around to see who it was. His heart was pounding in his chest because there was a hint of life force that he recognised, and his heart just knew.
Saita stepped back from the love of her life. The fight had just reminded her of the times after he had returned. The times they had both had to adapt to his new handicap, especially when he refused to have it surgically corrected. It hadn’t really impacted his life as king, and he felt no need to have it fixed. It did mean that they had to develop a new way of training, fighting enemies, and raising their many children.
Bolx’s heart was pounding in his chest as he slowly turned, only for it to skip a beat when he was greeted with a face he knew was the woman he would wed one day. He wanted to throw his arms around her and weep when he saw her. Yet the more he looked, the more he came to realise what she had been forced to go through when he and Aidan had disappeared. Despite the ratty green bandana, she wore over her right eye, he could see the damage done to her face.
Her single grey eye looked back at him longingly, and with so much hurt he wondered how much time had passed since she had last seen him. It was more than six months, he knew that, especially when tears filled her eye, and her lips quivered.
She had known how to work with him without his arm, and this was clearly a honed skill. A skill that had taken years to achieve. No, this wasn’t Saita from the time he had been taken from. This was someone far older, someone who hadn’t seen him in a long time.
He felt tears come to his eyes when he realised the implication of everything before him. To this Saita, he had been long gone. She had already defeated the Fell Dragon, lived out her life, maybe had a family, lost them all, and still managed to carry on with her life. Now she stood before him, years, if not decades, after she lost her family to ensure that she would see him one more time and make sure that he got back safely to her in the past.
He desperately wanted to say something, anything, but there was nothing he could say. He was meant to be her partner, but he had left at a crucial part in her life, and she had had to face everything alone. He half chuckled and released a nervous sigh as the tears he was holding onto moistened his cheeks.
“Gods, I missed you.” She whispered.
Bolx wiped at his eyes in a hurry before the woman stepped closer. She seemed so unsure of approaching him as if she was doing something she shouldn’t be doing. He didn’t hesitate. He pulled her closer and hugged her as if she would disappear.
“I’m so sorry you faced her alone.” He whispered.
Now the fun is due to start!
