Commonly NEET (Not in Education, Employment, Training) is filled with male in their 20's and 30's. NEET is synonymous with basement dwellers whose life spent on playing vidya games and earn GBP (good boy points) living in their parents basement. NEET can be found active on games forum, forums and internet. These are their domain. It's their social life and their life.
NEET is also synonymous with HIKIKOMORI or a shut in. They lead almost similar lifestyle but with slight differences. NEET still able to go outside now and then. In terms of gender, majority of NEET in popular culture are male. As proven when we try to find information on NEET, it's mostly male and less on female demographic.
My question is now, " Why are there less female NEET " ?
I recently came across manga which depicts 23 years old female NEET. She comes from seemingly decent family background and not at all abusive. To me, that was an interesting case of a NEET. And overall, the story is quite familiar with mine with her and I being at the same age.
However, I can't say I am a NEET through and through. That's because I possess some qualities that excludes me from being a NEET such as : I don't live with my parents, I make money from freelancing, I am still in education (barely surviving) and I help my parents occasionally. But I can relate with their life from just how I feel about and think about my surrounding. Much like the character, I watch people's life pass me by but I find it hard to get myself back up as driven by anxiety and past traumas. Thus far, that is the impression I got from the character's storyline. I haven't finished it but from volume 2, I could already relate to so many things. However, she's just a character.
I actually wonder and wanting to know more about the actual Female NEET. I am curious about their life, their lifestyle and everything about them. Because Male neet is much easier to find and their opinion is everywhere on reddit, youtube and 4chan. Whilst female, I barely find them which also is another question I asked earlier.
This week, I am going to try to find them. I hope lurking on reddit will help me find those female neet and learn a thing or two.
