This is my post for #freewriters 2209 prompt publish the story hosted by @mariannewest and @daily.prompt
I got home from my vacation to Massachusetts Tuesday evening, when I walked in the door my husband had this little rattlesnake in a bag and told me that one of the dogs killed it and how they are lucky to be alive. This is the first little one that we have seen. The others have been over 5 feet. I know they have more than one baby, more like 30, so now I am jumpy when weeding.
Wednesday morning my husband said I needed to do something about my Dragon Fruit plants, he said they were about to fall. I guess he was right because not 30 minutes later, they were lying on the ground. Isn't this a mess?
This picture is from last June, they are much bigger now and lots of fruit were on them.
One of my sisters said she would come to help us pick them up but by 1:00 Thursday I gave up on her and my husband and I managed to get them up. This time we put them in a square with one in the middle and nailed 4 boards onto them locking them together. I hope they will not fall again, we also put braces around them.
Today I noticed my boat trailer had not one flat but both tires were flat, on the gauge, one tire read no air and the other said it had 5 pounds of air. I filled them with air and tomorrow I will check to see if they are leaking.
I noticed that both of my big avocado trees had blown over and they look like they have been like that for several days. I tied them to a plant that was rooted into the ground.
There were two areca palms blown over but when I tried to stake them I could not hammer the stake into the ground because there were too many old clam shells in that area, so I had to move them.
Before I publish the story let me rant about weeds, how can they grow so fast? I weeded before I left and I have been gone only 5 days also how can so many things go wrong in that short of time?
I wonder how many things would have gone wrong if I had stayed longer? But I am glad we came home when we did, the next morning their temperature dropped to 29F, and frost. When we left it was upper forties or low 50s. I was wearing long john pants under my jeans, 2 long john shirts and another shirt, a thin jacket and over it a big puffy jacket. When I got off the plane in Orlando, I did not care that I was hot.
