Well, it's been another typically busy month around the Cubed household. The youngest continues to grow like a weed, and is currently... gosh, TEN MONTHS OLD?! How did that happen? Time flies when you're having fun as they say.
The elder two kiddos are both in t-ball/softball this season, and that's been a lot of fun. My 4yo is loving her weekly practices and I got roped into coaching for my 6yo's team. Two practices a week, thankfully on weekdays. It has been a learning curve and there were the usual hoops to jump through (criminal record checks and coach training stuff), but it's been a pretty fun and rewarding time so far.
The team just had their first actual game last Thursday, and while there are no winners or losers in U7 softball, it was pretty clear that our team had done more practice on some core elements. We rarely use the Tee, and often will pitch to the kids for example, and we've done a lot of practice on how to hold and swing a bat, throw a ball, etc. Stuff I had thought I'd long ago forgotten given that I haven't played any form of baseball in.. hell, probably 20 years I guess. I'm almost 40 now. Wild.
Besides that, we've been just doing a lot of yard stuff. Because of the multiple surgeries I'd had last year and the general shitstorm that being hobbled was, we were pretty behind in a lot of the maintenance and upkeep things for the house. We didn't even plant a garden at all last year because it took half the year just to get back to walking like a normal human. So, we've been playing a bit of catch-up, and all of that is to say: we've finally gotten a garden planted again. Our deck has a bunch of really nice flowers, and three days ago, I spent some time getting some new deck lighting set up.
They're nothing fancy, but they sure do a great job giving a little bit more light and providing a nice atmosphere to the back deck!
I bought a bunch of little garden bags that are supposedly great for potatoes, which I'm trying to grow this year. We'll see if these are as good as folks online claim... it can't be worse than growing them in five-gallon pails, and that works well enough that I'm sure these will do the job!
My D&D game has been on hold a bit as one player went to the US for a bit of fun in Texas, another player spent a few days in Calgary enjoying a convention, and two others just went across the pond to see family in England and Ireland. Everyone is back home now, finally, after a staggered month and a half, so I'm hoping we can pick the game back up soon! It's everyone's busy season, but most of the crew works in the same office I do so it should be fine to schedule something even if one of the crew doesn't end up being able to make it. We'll see how things go. I've been really itching to get to some tabletop gaming, and haven't even managed to play any solo games, though I have a lot of stuff to show off once I do get back to a more regular gaming schedule!
At any rate, I thought I'd just write up a post and confirm that I am in fact not dead. I've been shite at making my daily @worldbuilder posts as well thanks to everything going on. I'm going to be trying to carve out more time for that though so at least the folks who use those prompts regularly have something to work with (Thanks @alonicus!)
Now though, I've got to run. I coach in an hour and I've got some stuff to do before we hit the field.
Until next time my friends!
