Today morning I woke up around 7:30. Just like I used to do in Delhi, I finished all my morning routine. Brushed, bathed, got fresh and after that I got ready for office. Before leaving, I also talked to my family for some time. It felt nice... peaceful. Then after some time, I left for office.
From some days something strange is happening with me. Since the day my roommate Patil left the room, I don’t feel like going for breakfast anymore. I don’t know what’s the exact reason. Maybe I’m wasting my time too much these days or maybe I just don’t feel like doing much in morning. It’s like a blank space since he left. Even though I don’t say it out loud, I do miss that daily routine we used to follow together.
Today was also not planned at all. Means I didn’t make any to-do list or something. Just went to office like a normal day. But when I reached, I was given a new project to work on. It was a design project so for that I had to read some code and study a little. But thankfully it wasn’t like pressure pressure. More like research and development type work. So I started doing R&D work... was exploring things and trying to understand. Almost worked like that till 4 PM. After that we usually go for a walk outside to take some fresh air and relax our mind. Today also we followed the same routine and went out for some time.
Now while coming back home from office, something caught my attention. I saw a huge crowd near a road. There were people dancing, loud music playing, dhol nagade beating and beautiful light decorations everywhere. I went close to see what’s going on. Turned out people were carrying some god’s idol and doing a small procession. I also stopped, joined my hands, prayed quietly and felt really calm for few seconds. Then I moved on and continued walking towards home.
As soon as I entered my room, I was damn hungry. First thing I did – I went downstairs to check what’s made for dinner. And surprise surprise – Aloo and Chole ki sabji. Which is quite rare to get here. I was happy, I ran upstairs to get my plate. I was just about to serve my food when my next room bhaiya came and said, “Yaar, let’s go out today. I don’t feel like eating this ghar ka khana.”
I told him, “Bhai, I have no money yaar.” Still he said, “Tu aa na, I’ll manage today.” Honestly I didn’t want to go, but he had asked me so many times earlier also and I always said no. So today I finally said yes. Sometimes these unplanned outings are the best ones. So me, my roommate and that bhaiya got ready and we left after some time.
We sat on his bike and went towards a place called Malleshwaram Circle. There is a small shop there which is famous for egg rice. But today I got to know it’s also very famous for chicken egg roll. I had no idea because I don’t know much about places here. But bhaiya said that he is eating here since childhood and the quality is always great. That made me excited.
Even though the distance was just around 2 km, it took us more than 20 minutes to reach. Because Bengaluru traffic is crazy during evening. Everyone is returning from office, roads are packed, and traffic signals on every 300-400 meters. So even short distance takes lot of time.
Finally, we reached that place. The shop was very small. Like really really small. I thought maybe we are at wrong place. But the shock was – there were already 20-25 people standing in line. I was like what’s so special here? It’s just a roll na. Still we stood in line and waited. My curiosity was increasing with every minute.
After some time, our turn came. I ordered half plate egg rice with extra gravy. And then the magic started. The egg rice was simple, normal like other places. But the gravy was something else. The taste was so unique. They make it by mixing boiled eggs in some spicy curry and serve it hot with the rice. It was spicy, creamy, tasty... everything at once. I instantly understood why people were standing in line.
They charge ₹50 for half plate rice and ₹30 for extra gravy. But trust me, it was totally worth it. I saw almost everyone there was taking extra gravy. That gravy was not optional anymore, it was the main hero of the dish. Without it, the roll was just ordinary.
After finishing my plate, I felt like the whole wait, the traffic, the hunger – everything was worth it. Like full paisa vasool. I didn’t expect such taste from such a small shop. But this is what I love about street food. Real taste is found in these small corners of the city. No big restaurant, no fancy menu – just one plate of pure love.
And now I think that’s my favourite chicken egg roll place. If anybody asks me again to go there, I’ll say yes without any second thought. Because some tastes stay in your memory, not just your tongue.
So yeah, this was my day. A normal day that turned into something memorable. Just like that... no plan, no schedule. Sometimes best memories are made in most unexpected ways. And now I have one more small story to smile about.
