Yeah i know it's quite a sober looking picture, it helps set the tone right
Hiya folks.. It’s another beautiful morning; I do feel a bit under the weather but I got to do this. Ok let’s have a go at it shall we?
I was going to write a movie review today, but I’m going to put that aside for now, maybe post it next week. Today, let me air out my mind on a different subject. Recently I’ve started to realize how human behavioral patterns have a way of repeating themselves through time [well duh they are patterns for that reason]. You know how people say history has a way of repeating itself, well if you look closely at some events that happen through-out the course of time, you realize that history is simply a repetition human behavioral patterns through-out time across different societies. Now this discovery I believe is what gave rise to a group of academics known as social constructivist and left leaning ideologist who believe that human beings are creatures whose behavior and personality is solely dependent on social structures, processes and procedure and that alteration of any culture will lead to a successful mass alteration of people’s behavior; that’s one way to put it another way to say this is that they believe that the conscious control and adjustment of culture will lead to the same results in people. Now they do have a point, I’m not going to lie; matter of fact parts of this article does validate their argument that there is a clear relationship between social structures and people’s personality however an alteration in one does not lead to a direct intended change to the other.

keep in mind all of the pictures on this post will be in black and white cause you know.. it's cool
Their argument fails to put in other factors that shape society such as biological and evolutionary factors and that’s what this whole write up is about. It’s my attempt at hypothesizing how human behavioral patterns are shaped and affected by social, biological and evolutionary factors, hence why we see the same patterns show up in different places, with different people at different times. It is my attempt at making sense of the world around me so I apologize ahead, please do bear with me. This isn’t anything like academic research so don’t take it too seriously. It’s purely writing based off of my personal experiences, some of the things I’ve read, the people I’ve interacted with both academics and non-academics alike and my interpretation and rationalization of the world around me. So please don’t quote this anywhere, well that is until I get my PhD of course, then you could start considering taking this write up seriously. Have an open mind as you read through this and tell me what you think about it down below in the comments section.

yeah and most of the photos won't be related to be topic so just enjoy them purely for their aesthetics
Alright so behavioral patterns have a way of repeating themselves amongst various distinct cultures even amongst mutually exclusive ones. These patterns range from highly complex multiple layered social interactions such as the correlation between music, dance and psychedelics in relation with what people perceive as a trance like spiritual experience, or the parameters and dynamics that define what constitutes as the law in any given state to even less complex but more common place things like the constituents of any communication system or gender dynamics and gender roles in any given culture; although if you step back and really think about it you would realize that none of the latter stated points are less complex things.

Look! fancy stairs
Now just stay with me now for a second don’t lose track of where we are heading. Let’s take a look at teenagers and their behavior in secondary schools. Two complete random strangers are most likely going to have a somewhat similar experience of secondary schools despite the fact that they come from completely different kinds of society. Now I work as a librarian in a school right and my job has given me the opportunity to study teenagers closely and give me insights on how they behave. One thing I;ve come to realize is how similar their experience of navigating secondary school is similar to mine, even though our experiences are five years apart (heck my departure from secondary school coincided with the introduction of the android to the Nigerian market). It has also made me understand better, the functionality of society all simply from observing teenage children in a school environment.

here... a free wallpaper you never though you needed
The first thing you realize when you study them is how highly impressionable they are and when you contrast this to how they behave when they eventually grow up, you realize that they carry a considerable amount of this impressionableness even to there early adult years. You begin to slowly realize how their social interaction changes from the ages of 14 to 18. You realize that they begin to following certain similar patterns that you followed when you where that age. They begin feeling more confident in their comprehension and interpretation of the world around them, apparently they’ve “figured it out” because now they have a fair understanding on how to navigate secondary school [high school as some of you folks know it]. You begin to observe that within this age range they begin to form a sort of rational perspective towards life, and I use the term rational very loosely here; and so because of this they begin to feel some sense of importance, feeling more in control of themselves and their actions. The idea that they are still very much naive and easy influenced by their environment seems to be the farthest away from the truth for the majority of them. And so the teachers and school authorities come in to try to alter the school environment in order to elicit behavioral changes in them. This usually stems into conflict between the school authorities and the teenagers seeking emancipation.
It’s this dynamic that makes teaching children and teenagers in a school environment very difficult especially when you can understand the reasons for their stupidity and their misplaced confidence. It becomes even more interesting when you realize how their lives at this stage will greatly influence what their personalities will eventually turn out to be when they grow up. The ones are going to have a career in entertainment will probably begin to show high levels of extroversion at this point, they would most likely be amongst the most popular people in the school and they would have the most friends, the introverted thinkers and logicians who would most likely have a career in scientific or socio scientific fields would be seen as weirdo in class for being fans of anime and not sports, the audacious young boy with athletic features will automatically assumed as a sort of “alpha male” with other boys congregating themselves with him in order to enjoy a share of his popularity this will in turn feed to his presumed dominance [more chops to him if he possess above average intelligence]. The most attractive females would get the attention of almost all the boys in the school; this in turn will motivate some other girls to associate themselves with her friends with them in order to share in her influence and keep the influence within the formed group [that last part doesn’t usually happen within boy groups]. Finally an overwhelming majority of the students would dislike the central school authority because they view them the people trying to control their make shift society. In many cases only a few of them would be able to eventually break away from this pseudo society perspective in their early adult years as the traits that they develop in this playground call school is what they carry with them into life.

how I feel writing this post
It is quite interesting to watch unfold because the school uses certain personality altering procedures in order to work socially acceptable traits into them and yet we see their biological nature fight against these traits that are being imbued into them at this stage. These new traits very often are what we recognize as the things that differentiate educated people from uneducated people.
With this example, we can see how puberty influences personality which in turn affects society, which in turn affects personality. We see by studying teenagers and how secondary schooling affects their personality formation a wider perspective makes you understand better personality development due to social as well as environmental and biological factors. This relationship doesn’t just exist in teenagers and secondary schools but in almost all areas of society as we know it. This dynamic is also observed in other aspects of society such as work and family relationships between men and women, economic priorities of people within different age grades, ideologies and idea formation and other complex social structures. I believe that in understanding personality as it relates to human behavioral patterns and personality formation and its relationship with environmental, biological and social factors we would be able to understand people better and in turn we will be able to better navigate the course of society and who knows maybe even solve some of problems along the way.
Ehhn but who am I kidding? I’m just a twenty-four year old third world country pseudo blogger with grand ideas in his head, ambition in his heart and an old laptop which he uses to gather some bucks from hive. Let me not get ahead of myself. If the future gets better, maybe then we would be able to make global change and not just any kind of change but good change, the type of change that would leave all of society better than the way we met it.
