The row boat was leaking, an oarlock had broken so that she could only row in circles, and a storm was coming. Things were not looking good.
That's when she started coughing.
"Oh woe is me, can things get any worse? I came out here on the water hoping for healing, for life to return to my sodden and sorry limbs. For my nose to stop running and my fever to abate. And what happens instead? I start coughing so hard I pee my pants a little with every cough. I hate getting old."
Down from the sky descended - what else - a minotaur! Yup, all body of man, head and limbs of a cow. He hovered over the fast sinking boat and took a dump. This made the boat just heavy enough to list to the starboard side, and water began rushing over the gunwale.
Resigned to her demise, she began to sing Amazing Grace. She fell out into the water and discovered she could stand! The water only came to her waist.
She abandoned her craft, a boat from her childhood, and walked to shore, renewed.
This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is row boat.
I have a confession. I didn't even set a timer for this one. I've written so many freewrites now, I think I have a natural sense for when five minutes is up. I brought this to a close when I thought it was time and lo! I had written a story of redemption.
