This post is a response to the daily prompt for 5/30/25 "split in two".
When Winter approaches, we need to ensure that we have the resources to survive. We cannot just begin splitting wood the day before Winter rears its head, so some planning is required. We either anticipate Winter and split logs to dry or we get split in two by the cold.
Life is full of opportunities to procrastinate. Splitting wood takes time and effort, and the game wood needs to be carefully stocked and dried. We need to put our backs into this task, which means we need to preserve our physical fitness and this is something we need to keep on top of all year long.
Splitting wood takes tools. We need an axe and a wedge. We made a crack in the wood and add the wedge. We turn the axe and strike the wedge to crack the dry wood open so it can burn effectively.
When we take the time to see the bigger picture, splitting wood in half so it can be effective fire wood makes sense. We need a combination of willpower, know how, foresight and drive to survive a hard Winter. If we falter, we will be fighting an unrelenting wall or cold that will define our lives for a quarter of the year.
Make sure you get your priorities together in the Summer so you can relax in the Winter.
