The juxtaposition of apathy and kindness in the water bearer’s demeanor does stand out. Makes me think of the global situation. Water being so critical to life, it’s shocking that humans have knowingly, even deliberately poisoned the waterways in the production of so much pointless industrial garbage. Unless we have a good well and/or a rain barrel, we’re the ragged man, reduced to begging the system for its reclaimed and “treated” product. Then it coldly dictates the terms of receipt.
