In my final year of school, I was appointed the Sanitary Prefect. My main duties were to ensure the school environment was clean and that students maintained proper appearance and hygiene.
Every morning, I inspected the school environment. I checked if students swept their classes, cleaned the corners, and disposed of waste properly. But what challenged me most were students who dressed carelessly; shirts flying out, socks dirty, buttons undone and ties sagged. Some just didn’t care. I always had to ask them to button it up and know their ties properly.
At first, many students resisted correction. Some ignored me or mocked me behind my back. But I stayed firm and respectful.
Over time, things changed. Students became more mindful of how they dressed and behaved. Some even began to help with keeping the environment clean without being told. That small shift made me proud.
