The exam hall was stuffy, and I was already sweating, not from heat, but from tension. I had studied all night, but somehow, my seat was right in front of the invigilator’s table. No chance to even blink wrongly.
I glanced at Dorathy, who was comfortably seated at the back. She caught my eye and raised a brow like she knew what I was thinking. I said silently, “Would you like to swop?” she smiled. Without saying a word, she began packing her things.
We passed each other halfway like spies exchanging places. I slid into her seat and breathed freely. This was my zone. Not that I had any plans to cheat o, but that front seat was like sitting in front of judgement day 😂
I settled in and brought out my biro. The questions were fair, God really came through. I was writing confidently when I heard footsteps. My heart froze. One of the invigilators stood beside me, looking straight at my ID card. “Weren’t you sitting in front?”
I struggled to respond “Yes sir… I just… we swapped seats.”
His eyes narrowed. “Why?”

Before I could answer, Dorathy raised her hand from the front. “Sir, it was me. I begged her to let me sit there. I have eye issues, I see better under bright light.”
I looked at her, surprised. That girl just saved me.
After the exam, I pulled her outside and said “Thanks.”
She smiled and replied, you are welcome.
