I believe that life is full of unexpected moments. It is full of unwanted embarrassment, but sometimes those happenings in our lives can be the reason why we keep on thriving. Is that true to you? If so, come with me, as I'll take you on an extraordinary journey.
“Ganahan ko mahisama sa ila”
(I want to be like them)
I often say these words not because I admire others but because I am insecure. No, I'm not saying that I'm not satisfied with myself. But let's admit it, insecurities are always the unwanted visitors in our lives. I tend to look up to others because I want to be like them (physically).
I know that there is a big difference between taking others as an inspiration or role model and forcing yourself to be like them. And to be honest, I often find myself in that situation. I often compared myself to any picture-perfect models or artists I saw on TV. But that's still not enough. So I have concluded that the problem here is not my body, nor my beauty, but rather, I'm the problem myself. Yes, I am. If it weren't for my comparison, I wouldn't be insecure. But I have tried everything not to become insecure. But I can't help it. I need time to heal. I need time to process the fact that I have to accept myself.
Unfiltered, unedited, and undeniably me
These insecurities kept on lurking inside my head until I came across a motivational video that says “Though the butterflies cannot see how beautiful of its wings are, but we're still admiring its unique beauty. Likewise, though we cannot see our beauty, others will see it and keep on admiring you.” And I felt that. I have remembered many times how I was complimented because they loved my natural long lashes, my heart-shaped lips, and my eyebrows, yet, I don't believe one of them. Now I have come to realize that maybe they are right about complementing me. They see me as a fine woman but I was blinded by my beauty because I always compare myself to other beautiful girls passing by.
I have come to understand that life can be so judgmental at times. But that doesn't mean that we have to be influenced by that vision. If others don't see us as beautiful, then know that we have different points of view and visions. All of us are wonderful and attractive, but we need a good eye to see it.
I felt sorry for myself, so for now, I have strived to embrace all that I am and hold to the truth that all are wonderfully made beautiful by God and there is nothing to be insecure about because, in the end, beauty comes to those who believe that they are not perfect.
