Godfrey put on his clothes and sat down in a chair and waited for Dr. Augustine to start speaking.
"Last night, it was around half past eleven when one of the nurses goes to the bathroom and sees Dr. Marigold's clothes piled up in front of one of the bathroom cubicles. The nurse takes a bath and goes back to her room and sleeps.
When she goes to the bathroom at five in the morning, she sees that Dr. Marigold's clothes are still there. She gets worried and knocks on the door, but she doesn't hear an answer. She goes to the janitor and asks him to open the bathroom door.
When the door opens, they see Dr. Marigold hanging by the neck from the shower faucet with a thick rope, her face bruised and her eyes bulging.
"It's really unfortunate. But are you sure this incident is the work of a ghost? Maybe Dr. Marigold committed suicide."
"Mr. Midhurst, I am an accomplished psychiatrist and I can confidently say that Dr. Marigold was not at all suicidal."
Godfrey said while staring at a point and lost in thought.
"Diagnosing depression is often difficult. A person may appear completely happy, as if nothing is wrong."
Dr. Augustine said in an offended tone:
"You think I don't know these things?"
Godfrey, suddenly out of his thoughts, blinked and said:
"No, dear Dr. Augustine, I didn't mean that. I was just thinking to myself and considering different sides of the case."
Dr. Augustine said coldly:
"I see."
"Please give me a list of people close to Dr. Marigold so I can talk to them."
Dr. Augustine picked up a pen and started writing the names of people on a piece of paper and when he was done, he gave the paper to Godfrey.
"Thank you Dr. Augustine. I'm going to get to work. With your permission."
Godfrey got up and went to the door, and Dr. Augustine saw him off with a deep meaningful look.
Godfrey was standing behind the door of Atarah Hope's room with a nurse. The nurse said with a worried face:
"Are you sure you want to be alone in room with her?"
Godfrey answered with a calm face.
"Of course."
"But she has a history of assault."
"I won't do anything to provoke her."
Not knowing Godfrey was a vampire, the nurse wondered if the man was brave or foolish, then unlocked the door to Atarah's room and stepped aside for Godfrey to enter.
Godfrey entered the semi-darkened room and the nurse closed and locked the door behind him. Atarah was sitting in the corner of the room, hunched slightly, looking at Godfrey with questioning eyes.
Godfrey looked all over the room smiling. Small metal skulls. Candles in the shape of humans and animals and paintings in red and black colors.
"I like your room decorations."
"Nothing is seen in this darkness."
"I have sharp eyes."
Godfrey stepped forward and sat down on the floor in front of Atarah.
"Your name is Atarah, isn't it? It's a beautiful name, just like you."
Atarah said in an offended voice:
"Are you kidding me?"
"of course not."
"You said your eyes are sharp. How did you not see this?"
and pointed to the hairless part of her head.
"Even so, you're still beautiful."
"you are lying."
"No, Atarah. I hate lies. Your big eyes are full of life and full of hope. They are like a window through which you can reach the promised land. Where you can be at ease, without any worries, apprehension and fear."
Atarah, whose attention was drawn to Godfrey's words, moved forward a little.
"Are you worried and apprehensive? Are you afraid of something?"
Godfrey answered in a calm and cautious voice.
"Yes, there is something that I am afraid of. In fact, it is something that only a few people know about, and it is somewhat of a secret. But I am telling you because I think that I can trust you."
Excited, Atarah got on her knees and came forward.
"Yes, yes. You can trust me."
"What I fear is myself."
"But why?"
"I'll tell you, and I hope you won't be afraid to hear it."
Atarah quickly shook her head in denial.
"I am very brave, I will not be afraid."
Godfrey moved closer to Atarah, so that their faces were only inches apart. As Atarah gasped in excitement and her heart pounded, Godfrey brought his mouth to her ear and whispered:
"I'm a vampire."
Atarah's eyes widened and her mouth fell open. She said with a voice that trembled with joy.
"This… this is really wonderful!"
And then she raised her hand and placed it on Godfrey's cheek.
"So that's why this skin is soft and perfect. Can I turn on the lamp so I can see you under the light?"
"Of course."
Atarah immediately got up and went to the lamp switch and pressed it. The room lit up and Godfrey looked down for a few moments and blinked to let his eyes adjust to the light. However, when he looked up at Atarah, his eyes were filled with tears, and of course, this made Atarah see his face even more heavenly.
Atarah said with a teary voice:
"These bright golden eyes that can melt my heart. This white marble skin. This shapely curve of the lips and this black twisting cascade of hair... If I had seen you in the light from the beginning, I would have known that you are a heavenly being."
Regret sat on Godfrey's face.
"But I am not a celestial being. Even if I am not a monster, I am an animal that feeds on the blood of other living beings. My thirst for blood is indescribable, and the thirst inside me is like..."
Atarah continued his words:
"...is like a madman who should be chained."
"Yes, yes, exactly so."
Atarah walked up to Godfrey and stopped a few feet away, her face contorted and tears falling.
"Ah, how much you look like me."
Godfrey opened his arms and invited Atarah into his arms. Atara also accepted this invitation and as she sobbed, she fell into Godfrey's arms and Godfrey wrapped one hand around her waist and stroked her hair with the other hand.
They stayed in this position for a while and then sat down on the floor facing each other again. Atarah, now identified with Godfrey, revealed her secret to him, confessing how her ghost friend hanged Dr. Marigold because of her.
Then, Godfrey and Atarah worked together to perform the ghost hunting ceremony. They decorated the room with candles and crosses, held each other's hands and began to read verses from the Bible.
Meanwhile, Godfrey unleashed his power and willed this dark force to be used for a good purpose, and thus the vile ghost was forced to leave the material world while screaming and cursing. .
At night, as Godfrey rested in his room at the Raven's Wing organization, he had a nightmare.
He was tied to a chair in one of the madhouse's rooms with wires attached to his naked body. Dr. Augustin was standing in front of him with a control in his hand, and a combination of determination and kindness could be seen on his face.
"Dear Godfrey, this will help you control your bloodlust better."
He said this sentence and then pressed one of the control buttons. Electricity surged through Godfrey's body and he screamed from the depths of his being.
