The creaking sound from the wooden stairs woke Amber from her long hours sleep. She was drenched in sweat as she gasped for air holding her chest and trying to breathe quietly.
The creaks became closer and her room door was slightly open, darkness covered the house except for the little flash of street light that stole its way into her room from the opening on her rickety wooden window.
"I hope my nightmare isn't becoming a reality? She whispered with her hands clutched against each other. Suddenly the little beam of light that shone in her room disappeared leaving her in gross darkness.
Amber was losing her mind as she slowly got out of bed and crawled under it laying flat on the ground waiting for whatever ghost that had entered her house to show itself.
Fear took hold of her entire body as she trembled and sweated profusely under her thighs. Worse of all she was home alone, her Nana whom she lived with was at the hospital and Amber was supposed to go see her but she overslept and now she's facing the horror of the century.
While her mind battled different thoughts, her eyes glared to at least see through the dark for what found its way into their old peaceful home and the door was slowly pushed open. Amber could feel her soul leaving her slowly as she immediately wet herself. The door went wide open but she could see no hands nor legs that pushed it.
Her floorboard creaked at each step the ghost took and suddenly she felt her bed drop almost pressing her into the ground.
"Damn! You should have put on a lot of weight to make my bed drop this much" she muttered as she tried to turn upward and hold the bed from pressing her head to the hard floor.
"Am,am, am Amber" she stammered
Her room echoed after her name had been called and then she felt chills run down her spine, the room felt thick and extremely foggy and the pronunciation stammer made her think of her Nana who had been terribly sick.
Amber immediately remembered her dream where she fought some witches who had captured her Nana but to no avail she couldn't free the old woman.
Still scared for her life, she crawled out of her hideout and the light immediately flashed back into the room through the crack and she could see her Nana seated on her bed. Amber immediately held the old woman's hands but they were as cold as ice, she hugged her tight and hot tears ran down her cheeks.
"Don't, cr, cr, cry, Amber" the woman placed her hand on the girl's head trying to console her.
"Why'd you go Nana, why? Why are you leaving me all by myself?" She sobbed and wiped the tears off her eyes and raised her head to look at her Nana's face for the last time as she knew that she wouldn't stay long.
"I,I came to say goodbye since you weren't in the hospital for me to say goodbye to you properly, I'm sorry I scared you, the old lady looked unhappy and sorrowful that she was leaving her only grandchild to face the ills of the cruel world.
"you'll be fine!"
"How do you know that Nana? I miss you already" she started crying again all over.
"Amber dar...ling, I saved some money for you, I, I, didn't want you, to, to use it for my ho, ho, ho, hospital bills so, so, I didn't tell you about it"
"What do you mean Nana?" She looked up again, tears falling uncontrollably.
"There's a, a, chess in my room, open it and you, you'll find money in the…. there, use it to take care of yourself, goodbye am, Amber darling".
Amber screamed out in pain as she felt a sharp pain in her heart, she clung on tight but her Nana was gone, she cried till she fell asleep.
The sun seeped in through the same hole in the morning and Amber jerked awake
"Oh God, I hope this is all a dream" she swung her wooden window open and the sun shone brightly in her room. She immediately ran to her Nana's room and she found the chess on the bed and when she opened it, there was a lot of cash in it.
Amber fell on the bed and sobbed uncontrollably
"Why Nana, why?" She hissed and got up from the bed back to her room to wash her face and get ready to go demand for the body at the hospital for proper burial.
