Very good morning, dear community of #freewriters! 🌞 On this Wednesday with a taste of coffee and memories, I want to thank once again @mariannewest for leaving us every day a wonderful excuse to write, laugh, heal and share. ✍️💫 Today the theme has bite... literal: “false teeth” 😅 So get your best smile ready because what's coming is as real as grandma's teeth... but with a lot of heart. ❤️
I'll never forget the first time I saw a denture out of a mouth. It was my grandmother's, floating peacefully in a glass next to the sink, as if she was on vacation. 🤣 As a kid, I thought they were magic, as if by putting them in I could bite down on life's problems and spit them out turned into laughter.
Over time, I discovered that those teeth were not just tools for eating: they were a symbol of stories, of resilience, of hard times where there were no orthodontists, but strong women who laughed with their souls... and sometimes without teeth. 🙃
My grandmother used to say, “These teeth are not mine, but this smile is.” And with that she taught me that true beauty is in what one conveys. So, even if they were “false”, those teeth were the most sincere in the world, because they accompanied laughter that came from the heart, even if life was not so easy to chew.
I also remember when the youngest members of the family would stare at the teeth in awe, as if they were a mythological creature. 🦷😄 Once, my younger cousin hid it to play a joke on grandma.... and almost caused the family tragedy of the century! But far from getting angry, she burst out laughing so loudly that it infected everyone. She taught us that there are things you can lose in life, even your teeth, but never the ability to laugh at yourself.
And those dentures were like silent medals of having lived a lot, of having chewed sadness and surprises, and still smiling. At home, false teeth were not a symbol of old age, but of experience, of love, and of a unique ability to make the most (literally!) of the days, even with a borrowed smile.
And you? Do you have a story that made you laugh out loud... even without teeth? 😁 Don't underestimate the power of a smile, even if it comes in bits and pieces. The truest memories are sometimes born from “fake” things... like a forgotten tooth in the bathroom or a laugh that broke the silence of sadness.

Nunca olvidaré la primera vez que vi una dentadura postiza fuera de una boca. Era la de mi abuela, flotando tranquila en un vaso junto al lavamanos, como si estuviera de vacaciones. 🤣 De chico, pensaba que eran mágicas, como si al ponérselas pudiera morder los problemas de la vida y escupirlos convertidos en carcajadas.
Con el tiempo, descubrí que aquellos dientes no eran sólo herramientas para comer: eran símbolo de historias, de resiliencia, de épocas duras donde no había ortodoncistas, pero sí mujeres fuertes que se reían con el alma… y a veces sin dientes. 🙃
Mi abuela decía: “Estos dientes no son míos, pero esta sonrisa sí”. Y con eso me enseñó que la verdadera belleza está en lo que uno transmite. Así que aunque fueran “falsos”, aquellos dientes eran los más sinceros del mundo, porque acompañaban risas que salían del corazón, aunque la vida no fuera tan fácil de masticar.
También recuerdo cuando los más pequeños de la familia se quedaban viendo la dentadura con asombro, como si se tratara de una criatura mitológica. 🦷😄 Una vez, mi primo menor la escondió para hacerle una broma a la abuela... ¡y casi se arma la tragedia familiar del siglo! Pero lejos de enojarse, ella soltó una carcajada tan sonora que contagió a todos. Nos enseñó que hay cosas que uno puede perder en la vida, incluso los dientes, pero nunca la capacidad de reírse de uno mismo.
Y es que esas dentaduras eran como medallas silenciosas de haber vivido mucho, de haber masticado tristezas y sorpresas, y aún así, seguir sonriendo. En casa, los dientes falsos no eran un símbolo de vejez, sino de experiencia, de amor, y de una capacidad única de sacarle jugo (¡literalmente!) a los días, aunque fuera con una sonrisa prestada.
¿Y tú? ¿Tienes alguna historia que te haya hecho reír con ganas… incluso sin dientes? 😁 No subestimes el poder de una sonrisa, aunque venga en partes. Los recuerdos más verdaderos a veces nacen de cosas “falsas”… como una dentadura olvidada en el baño o una carcajada que rompió el silencio de la tristeza.
