A loaded word
Safe.
Safe from harm
From disease
From pain
From risk.
What will you lose
To stay safe.
Born to die,
From our first steps
Parents to love us
And hold us up high.
When did that change
for you, for me?
Some never one moment
Will ever safe be.
Touched as by love
Somehow came a gate
That passes us to
A pain deemed too great.
Innocence slain
A wound on our face
Bleeds deep inside
Yet longs to escape.
We play hide and seek
With a plate of regrets
It's hard find sleep
But our pain ne'er rests.
Venturing out from a slow
Hibernation, and others remain
No clear destination.
Hearts grow hard and cold.
I live. I take risks.
I follow my heart.
I speak to my God,
I share every part.
I'm safe and secure,
a hurricane eye,
ne'er was calmer
Than the apple of His eye.
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
Psalms 17:8 KJV
Safe is a loaded word for a trauma survivor. Childhood trauma. Twenty years of wedded domestic abuse. Terroristic threats. Periods of couch surfing. Hiding from harm. Suicide survivor. Head injury survivor from a pedestrian/car accident, and more. Still safe is where I am and where the Lord placed me.. if I can come through, so can you.
