Recycling: A big step towards a cleaner world [ENG-SPA]

Greetings hivers, I had a very long time without posting here, due to the university (I'm close to defend the degree project, and then start the internship and after that, graduate). This is my first post of the year in this beautiful community, thanks to @multifacetas who tagged me in this initiative, where I will describe how is the recycling issue in my country. Unfortunately, although there are institutions that try to inculcate recycling as part of the awareness towards decreasing the great environmental pollution due to the large amount of waste in rivers, on beaches, in parks, at home, in short, in many parts of our environment. However, the lack of education at home on the subject, makes that everything shown and taught in the institutions is not enough for citizens to follow as a rule of life to take care of our planet.

Saludos hivers, tenía tiempísimo sin publicar acá, debido a que la universidad (ya estoy cerca de defender el proyecto de grado, para luego iniciar las pasantías y posterior a eso, graduarme). Es mi primera publicación del año en esta bella comunidad, gracias a @multifacetas que me etiquetó en esta iniciativa, donde describiré como es el tema de reciclaje en mi país. Lamentablemente, aunque hay instituciones que tratan de inculcar el reciclaje como parte de la concientización hacia el disminuir la gran contaminación ambiental debido a la gran cantidad de desechos que hay en ríos, en playas, en parques, en casa, en fin, en muchas partes de nuestro entorno. Sin embargo, la falta de educación en casa sobre el tema, hace que todo lo mostrado y enseñado en Las instituciones no sea suficiente para que los ciudadanos sigan como norma de vida el cuidar nuestro planeta.

This reminded me of when we reused surgical macro droppers to water the plants we had previously planted. Another was to use spoons, CD's and wooden pallets for a project on hydropower (the project failed because the hot Silicone would peel off when wet), when I was also made to use coffee cups, the small ones, to do some aerial layering which was a success, I donated the plants to the university.

Esto me hizo recordar de cuándo reutilizamos macrogoteros quirúrgicos para regar las plantas que anteriormente habíamos plantado. Otro fue usar cucharas, CD’s y paletas de madera para la realización de un proyecto sobre energía hidráulica (me falló el proyecto porque la Silicona caliente al mojarse se despegaba), cuando también me hicieron usar vasos de café, de los pequeños, para hacer unos acodos aéreos que sí me fueron un éxito, las plantas las doné a la universidad.

Some of you know that I study rural engineering, a new and little known career, which focuses on the use of technologies and innovation, but preserving the environment, that is, always taking into account the impact that can be made to the ecosystem, trying as much as possible to be positive. In the career there are subjects called “Ecology and Environment”, “Agromatics”, “Alternative Energies” and they aim at the use of environmentally friendly technologies. Increasing production, but also increasing precision agriculture, which would be a separate topic.

Algunos saben que yo estudio ingeniería rural, una carrera nueva y poco conocida, la cual se enfoca en la utilización de tecnologías y de innovación, pero preservando el medio ambiente, es decir, siempre tomando en cuenta el impacto que puede hacerse al ecosistema, intentando en todo lo posible de que sea positivo. En la carrera hay materias llamadas “Ecología y ambiente”, “Agromática”, “Energías Alternativas” y apuntan hacia el uso de tecnologías en pro del medio ambiente. Aumentando la producción, pero también aumentando la agricultura de precisión, que ese sería otro tema aparte.

Leaving aside the race, I can say that in my house we have always tried to recycle and reuse as containers, cartons, bottles, fabrics, etc.. As you can see the series of images that I have placed in this publication, have been things that I have reused. For example, a sketchbook that I made with cardboard, cardboard and a ribbon, the only thing that was new were the white sheets that I had been given as a gift. I also reused a bottle of tomato sauce, I painted it to become a bottle to decorate the kitchen. And well, the other images are from crafts that I made in my beginnings of hive, giving a second chance to a cardboard box.

Dejando de lado la carrera, puedo decir que en mi casa siempre hemos tratado de reciclar y rehusar como envases, cartones, botellas, telas, etc. Como pueden ver la serie de imágenes que he colocado en esta publicación, han sido cosas que he reutilizado. Por ejemplo, un sketchbook que hice con cartón, cartulina y una cinta, lo único que estaban nuevas eran las hojas blancas que me habían regalado. También reutilicé una botella de salsa de tomate, la pinté para que se convirtiera en una botella para adornar la cocina. Y bueno, las demás imágenes son de manualidades que realicé en mis inicios de hive, dándole una segunda oportunidad a una caja de cartón.

In my house we give a second chance to everything, especially cardboard, since it is a very versatile material, one can do so many things with it, that together with other materials you can make great works of art, such as piñatas. In my country, although plastic containers are reused (something very common here) for margarine, juices, even cream, it is also very common to see people eating things in the street (candy, lollipops, tostones, etc.), and immediately throw the packaging, paper, wrapping in the street, and it is very rare to get a trash can and if there is one, it is full of garbage that no longer fits anything, or it has a hole in the bottom. There is no law, rule or norm that regulates this, with the recent reestablishment of garbage collection by trucks, but there are still many areas that do not “enjoy” this service. This is worrying because the contamination is so great and added to this the lack of water, the great unhealthiness that this entails, as well as the burning of waste that has caused a large number of children born with asthma, with lung problems, etc.

In short, if I were to talk in depth about this subject, I would never finish. I will end by saying that recycling, in order to produce a significant positive effect, depends a lot on each Venezuelan home, on each citizen, on each personal desire to take care of both our own and that of others, to want to obtain and preserve a better quality of life, to be more humane and aware of the great pollution that exists today and that the earth has been shouting at us for years. Hopefully, at some point the governmental entity will implement, regulate and promote recycling, through regulations and laws, to contribute to a healthier environment without pollution. En mi casa se le da una segunda oportunidad a todo, sobre todo al cartón, ya que es un material muy versátil, uno puede hacer tantas cosas con él, que junto con otros materiales se puede hacer grandes obras de arte, como las piñatas. En mi país, aunque si se reutilizan los envases de plástico (cosa muy común acá) de margarina, de jugos, de hasta la crema de leche criolla, también es muy común ver personas comer cosas en la calle (caramelos, chupetas, tostones, etc.), e inmediatamente tirar el empaque, papel, envoltorio en la calle, y es que muy raro se consigue un bote de basura y si lo hay está full de basura que ya no le cabe más nada, o tiene un orificio en el fondo. No hay una ley, una regla o normativa que regule eso, con decir que hace poco se restableció la recolección de basura mediante camiones, pero siguen habiendo muchas zonas que no “gozan” de este servicio. Lo cual es preocupante porque la contaminación es tan grande y sumado esto la falta de agua, la gran insalubridad que eso conlleva, así como la quema de desechos que ha provocado una gran cantidad de niños nacidos con asmas, con problemas pulmonares, etc.

En fin, si me pongo a hablar de forma profunda de este tema, no acabaría nunca. Terminaré diciendo que el reciclaje, para producir un efecto positivo significativo, depende muchísimo de cada hogar venezolano, de cada ciudadano, de cada deseo personal de cuidar tanto lo nuestro como lo de los demás, el querer obtener y preservar una mejor calidad de vida, el ser más humano y consciente de la gran contaminación que hay hoy y que la tierra nos grita desde años. Ojalá, en algún momento el ente gubernamental implemente, regule y promueva el reciclaje, mediante normativas y leyes, para contribuir a un ambiente más saludable sin contaminación.
