a cascading stream of thought -
Moss grows in that flow.

In this Haiku I draw a comparison between the flowing stream in the prompt picture with the cascade of thoughts many people have running through their minds. I'm not sure what the tree represents. Maybe, the times of silence that I often find in between the flow of my busy thoughts is the bridge; the fallen tree, a place that allows me to observe and create something greater than what is informed by my thoughts.
But as the final line states, something grows in that flow. I feel like this haiku could be an extended metaphor for the creative process, as both the thoughts and the stillness are needed for good creative writing. These are some of the insights that came to me while writing the haiku in response to this image.
Haiku poetry traditionally discusses abstract subjects or those from the natural world, including seasons, months, animals, and even the smallest elements of nature, down to a blade of grass or a drop of dew. While a haiku does not have to cover natural subjects anymore, it is most often used as a celebration of nature.
The Academy of American Poets asserts, "As the form evolved, many of the rules - including the 5-7-5 practice - have routinely been broken. However, the philosophy of haiku has been preserved: the focus on a brief moment in time; a use of provocative, colorful images; an ability to be read in one breath; and a sense of sudden enlightenment and illumination."

Hopefully this Haiku reflected the traditional Japanese feel for what makes the form great.
