A brief note on Hive-centric content and Google ranking.
It seems Google's algorithm now filters hive's content to sub-3rd page. Why?
The fact is that good writers will automatically have better SEO profile within the body of their text, even without going through a deep SEO optimization edit. Often they will also display a good confluence between keywords and repetition of key ideas/words related to the title/theme.
SEO doesn't help with google ranking when you post on hive.
But at some point steem/hive has been put on a shitlist at google HQ. I'm pretty certain of this as many posts of mine that previously showed up in the top 3 on the first page of google no longer show up. I stopped taking the time to dedicate an edit to SEO over a year ago when I first discovered this fact.
Image above shows google results for search term: 'my sibo story'. The Medium version of one of my series with this title was listed 2nd on first page, a whaleshares version of one of this series showed up page 3... I gave up looking for steem/hive versions at page 6!
The articles in the series I highlighted above all went through full edits focused on SEO and when I checked years ago google returned Medium and Steem versions both on the first page. At some point SEO stopped working when publishing on steem/hive, meaning essentially hive has little reach to the mainstream. Why has hive been muted from 1st page google?
Hive-centric content is consistently the highest rewarded.
The proliferation of often badly written hive/leo focused content being highly rewarded has destroyed the platforms Google ranking a hell of a lot quicker than any other factor. No amount of expensive external marketing, or shilling on twitter will change this while the echo chamber paradigm continues. The devaluation of the hive token (hive/btc charts show hive has made small gains in this bull run compared to other tokens) through the loss of google visibility far outweighs the short term gains of selfish curation practices.
The same old ridiculous 'hive politics' drama reigns supreme here, often with those who take the time to argue about things that nobody outside of this blockchain platform would even understand, being rewarded by whales who's opinion they have lobbied. These insular activities both drive the incentive for people to create hive-centric content, breeding a baffling and boring environment for new users.
When mainly higher quality content across a wide range of subjects gets boosted to the top of trending, the Google gods algorithms will raise the 1st page flood gates. Also, a wider range of interesting, relevant content for people from the mainstream world would make hive blockchain more appealing.
Hive remains quite centralized through the distribution of stake, and many of the big stake are killing hive's chances of success through their behavior. But hell... why should they care as long as they can take out $1k/month or more out into bitcoin or fiat with as little work manually curating as possible, at the expense of the blockchain's chances of long term success.
Hive's visibility to mainstream consumers, and the potential network effect when people jump on board is what drove the steem token's value in 2017. This platform needs to regain its google positioning as a priority first and foremost.
