I'll say it again - Hivers are the most creative, interesting and inspiring people on the whole internet. There's so many posts that have encouraged me, motivated me, and just downright moved me. This week, I read a piece of writing by @litguru, whose words just made me want to distill it down to a poetic form. So, without saying anything else, I just commented with the poetic distillation of his prose. He replied with his own verse, and I replied with a third stanza which completed the impromptu jam event. It was so much fun - and the result was worth sharing. You can find the original prose here to see what gave birth to the following poem.
Wild roses and falling petals
Lingering cardamom & cloves
You said we'd be gods among stars
Skin covered in seafoam & you
Leaving with the tide.
The scent of cinnamon
Aquatic elixirs
The rattle of seashells where you stand
Venus rising in the mist
Warm lips and potions
All those secrets in the sand.
Beds of clams & molluscs, & seaweed
Twined round jellyfish legs
Sticky with phosphorescence
I wake these days with salt on my lips
& think of the moonlight on the water
and those kama sutra nights.
The italics are my verse, the middle is @litguru's, who I set as 50 percent beneficiary for this fun poetry jam. Images from Unsplash, because I couldn't find any mermaids that were willing to be photographed.
