It’s been a while since we have been out caching. We were feeling a bit cooped up with quarantine so we decided to go out for a quick hike to clear our kinds and recharge a bit.
Geocaching was kind of a second thought as I choose this location for the scenery. I actually did not end up opening the geocaching app until about a mile into this five mile hike. I was happy to see that there was geocache on the trail. For a five mile hike having only one cache is pretty rare, so maybe I’ll add some caches in the future.
The cache was about 3 miles into the hike. It was pretty easy to spot too! I was pretty glad because there’s a lot of ticks in the area so being that it was only 25 yards off the trail kept me out of the thicker brush.
The cache was a nice water tight container that was buried under a thin layer of leaves and a stick. The cache had a few small items and high quality log book. I normally don’t take anything so I signed the log and sealed the container back up. I’ve been contemplating leaving a card with hive a hive account and keys, but I’ve not gotten around to trying it yet. What are your thoughts on this idea to help on board new users?
After finding the cache we finished the remaining two miles. It was a beautiful hike and I was glad we started early because the trail was pretty busy when we finished. I’m truly glad that we have such great trails close to our house. I’ve found that I need a good hike every couple of days to keep my mental health in check.
Happy caching!
