Lots of people came to my DM yesterday asking: "John why is the hashtag, DevFestUyo trending on Twitter, Whatsapp, LinkedIn, Facebook et al?" I told them it was actually a day all developers in Uyo were looking forward to but it was surprising or unsurprising that it turned out that massive, lol.
When we talk about techies in my state, we mean these gentlemen and ladies that came for this event which occurs annually.
It's called the developer's festival, DevFest. Unfortunately, I missed last year's event due to some academic reasons; so, I made up my mind, come rain or sun, I won't miss it. I'm glad I kept to my words.
What do I mean by DevFest?
Based on my understanding, the acronym stands for Developer's Festival. It is an event organized by Google Developer Groups (GDG) with an intention to connect all developers within a particular vicinity. It often occurs in different parts or states in the world. The developers who gain benefits in these events are: web developers, product designers, digital marketers, technical writers, data analysts, graphic designers, brand developers but just to mention a few. They are lots and lots of developers when pertaining to the tech world.
In this year's DevFest, the organizers still kept to the standard of the event. Though I came as one who wants to connect, learn and feel more challenge in the aspects pertaining to tech. I didn't participate as a volunteer, rather, I came as a visitor. So, all the events which took place from Friday, I missed out. I learnt that on Friday there was a fitness session where exercises were done by techies across the city of Uyo before the main event which was on Saturday.
On Saturday, we had amazing topics that were discussed, and the resource persons really did justice to trashing all the doubts and obstacles we face as techies in our respective world of tech, be it in web2 or web3.
As a writer, I got stirred by Anita Achu's session when she talked about technical writing, its challenges and how she overcame it.
Aside from that session, every session was a hit because in one way or the other, I was redirected to finding my niche here on the web3/web2 world.
I learnt that in as much as you want to be a master of all, you need to have one specialty that you are so good at in this journey of tech. Also, in the health tips session, we told on how to take care of our eyes because of the gadgets usage. Gadgets like: laptops, phones etc.
Since this event happens in every country across the globe, I wouldn't love my friends here on this platform to miss that opportunity. It is really an opportunity to connect with great men and ladies in the world of tech and also gain value in your society via problem-solving.
In my city, aside from the Google Developer Groups (GDG), other sponsors who contributed to this event are companies or hubs who embrace the technological innovations of the current world we are in.
