The previous post showed the TGF in response to an increased GFR. Now, when the GFR decreases, the sequence is as follows. Again, this will be made simple so that more detailed can be placed in subsequent posts
- An decreased GFR causes a decrease in the delivery of sodium chloride to the DCT
- The MD cells sense this sodium chloride decrease
- Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) leaves the MD cells
- PGE2 acts on E2 and E4 receptors on the JG cells causing a release in renin.
- The release in renin activates the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), increasing GFR by increasing the BP and constricting the efferent arteriole.
